New GP

Thought I would post an update as today I had a meeting with my new GP. She was very knowledgeable about PMR, had done a thesis on PMR while working in Edinburgh years ago. She praised this forum very highly and congratulated me on finding it so promptly, said the experts on this forum would keep me right and really knew their stuff! She was also delighted that I had bought Kate Gilbert's book. She advised me to taper very slowly and be comfortable with my body before going on to each taper and prescribed a very sizeable amount of Prednisolone to enable me to do this. She has requested a Dexa scan and in the meantime has prescribed Adcal. She is happy to see me regularly and have regular blood tests so no rheumatologist required. After my flare the other week I have been back on 14mg and now feel better after feeling not so well on 9mg. Will be staying on 14mg until the end of this week and, all being well, will reduce to 13.5 for a couple of weeks at least and taper more slowly than before. Any comments on the foregoing would be appreciated and thank you all again for your invaluable help.

I have just picked myself off the floor🤣🤣🤣 you have gold dust there my friend. It seems like a good story about gp's coming more regularly. 😁

I know, I could not believe my luck! I do hope she is with the practice for a while as she said she did locum cover for three practices but had had a regular slot at ours for over a year now, having originally expected to be there for three months. This is due to the lack of GPs available these days when somebody retires or leaves. I will live in hope that she is there for a while.

Your are so lucky; knowing you are in good hands will be a great protector against stress. Where are you? I might be tempted to move!

Hallelujah!!!! As Poopadoop says - you have gold there! Might be a good day to buy a lottery ticket!

And yes - where are you?

Don't do the lottery but me get break my rule this week! I live in Cupar, Fife in Scotland, near Dundee.

Oh right - so if I did have to come back to the UK there is a decent GP in Fife! Trouble is - not sure about Cupar. Aberdour now, or Dalgety Bay ...

I lived in Cupar for fifteen years, only left in 2011. (reluctantly) Now I'm in Surrey, my least favourite county in England!!

We moved here three years ago and I now like it very much. It's a lovely wee town, friendly people and some really nice walks which I'm not really able to do at the moment but I live in hope! Love nearby St. Andrews too. So glad we moved but sorry to hear you're not so happy in Surrey.

Thanks Billswife, I'll think of you walking the west sands in St Andrews! (do you?) they are very easy walking if you keep to the hard sand!

I have lovely friends in the south - but I couldn't live there! Where in Surrey? Do you go to the Chertsey support group?

Guildford, and I don't go to the support group. I find it quite hard to get out and about, some days fine but others a no no!

That GP was who was in Edinburgh all those years ago, might just have come across, PMR GCA Scotland, the very first charity in the UK. The lady who started it, about 14 - 15 years ago used to circulate to the hospitals and also the uni'.s I wonder if she knew.

Two students, who were at Dundee uni, used to volunteer to help with the posting to anyone who asked for information.
