I just found this link in my online local newpaper and thought some of you might like to get outside somewhere you never expected to manage again. These are all within an hour or so of my home and were definitely on the bucket list when we bought the flat. A few years later PMR put paid to that. Cable cars and buses only now
Go for a wander in the mountains: I just found this... - PMRGCAuk
Go for a wander in the mountains
Monte Corno in a cable car, I`d settle for that...on one of my better days...wonderful....
Off to Spain tomorrow - travelator up to town taking steepness of hill away! Bliss! X
Lovely thanks!
Lovely scenes - makes you feel as if you’re there and so relaxing...... hope you can get a closer look sometime. Thanks.
What a beautiful part of the world to live and a very nice place to put in your bucket. 😃 I managed Mam Tor in the Peak District when on high steroids. There was a bit of snow on the ground so very breath taking.
I live in Derbyshire (up a hill) and enjoy walks, but haven’t been to Mam Tor for a few years. When I have some energy I walk along the Derwent Dams, Water-cum-Jolly-Dale, Padley Gorge etc. However I have to be careful as I have osteoporosis, alongside PMR. One problem is that I tend to overdo it on ‘normal’ days and never learn, having the live now, pay later mentality. Worst of all though is being at home when I’m aching and not constantly moving. Need to be on a treadmill!
Thank you! We can always dream and enjoy the virtual tour in the meantime
Wooooo I used the virtual tour. A bit dizzy but lovely😮
It has to be virtual for me now. I still have the walking shoes I bought on a holiday in Merano and Bolzano 30 yrs ago but I don't think even they would help now.
Brilliant! What a great website. Brings back very happy memories of hillwalking in the Dolomites pre PMR.
I’ve just done a little bit of detective work! Looking at virtual tour no 2 and comparing it to other photos I took at the same time I am pretty sure that my banner panorama pic we were talking about the other day was taken from the top of the Dürrenstein.
You live in a gorgeous part of the world. Mind you the Scottish Highlands are looking pretty stunning just now too......
It was you I thought of when it appeared in the paper - I do love living here, even if it is a touch warm this week ...
Was just about to ask you how you were coping with weather.
Ok so far. It goes down to about 16C overnight and during the day the humidity is low, down to 16% in the afternoon. So you air the place in the mornings until the internal and external temps are about the same. Then you shut all the doors and put the external blinds down. We went out for a walk about 10am this morning - already over 20C and OK but by the time we got back it was HOT! Then we did the rest of the shopping in the car! It's OK sitting on the balcony until maybe 3pm - with the curtain across - which David does, I don;t.
You just have to feel sorry for anyone who has to work - they are building a roundabout at the supermarket!
Take care - too much heat not good for all your ailments.b But you seem to have it sussed.
Since I have moved to Wales I have always wanted to take the Cable car up Great Orme in Llandudno , obviously pre GCA/ PMR I would drag the family up it a few times a year anyway , but always fancied trying the car ride.
Unfortunately , I have not managed to go in it yet (and it would be my only choice at the moment ) because everytime we go over , the weather , or other issues , means it's not running
( and believe me , we plan it , see the blue sky and jump in the van thinking ,
" Today's the day!!" . Many of my families forced hikes up the Orme originated from getting there seeing the Cable car wasn't working and then groaning as I cheerily pipe up that we might as well walk up anyway ) .
We have had equal bad luck with the views from Snowdon although have managed to enjoy the train .
We have walked it many times .
The first as a family when Grandma ( my youngest ) was a babe in a carrier on my back , leaning over the side waving royally at passers by like the Queen while I counterbalanced at the edge of the rocky paths .
Yet , despite beginning the trek in glorious sunshine , everytime we have reached the top mountain mists came in and gave us a view similar to that seen by near sighted angel on a cloud.
I think for the moment , cable cars and trains will be my only way of getting to great heights , so , I am just hoping that now PMR has given me a good excuse to be on rides the sun might shine on me and let me see the view .
Or , at least find that the cable car is working so I can do the rides that I couldn't when I could walk it.
Although , here's a theory , could my family have somehow orchestrated me getting GCA/PMR , after many failed attempts giving me other chronic conditions , just so they could get out of doing all that walking?
I am beginning to wonder how....
Thanks for the link , and time to muse , Brains , my injured ankle and other flaring bits needed a bit of distraction xxx
I've yet to see the view from the top of Snowdon. Perhaps it's one of those Welsh myths.
It does , but it's a sea of white , maybe as you climb Snowdon you actually leave Wales altogether and that is all that is up there!
I've only been on the cable car up the Orme once and for some reason I was terrified all the way up! I couldn't really understand it because I normally really love that sort of thing and I've been on chairlifts and all sorts with no worries. I think it was to do with knowing that it was closed in high winds and how the conditions at the top can be different from the bottom and I spent to much time looking at the way it was balanced on the wire! By the time we came down I'd got a grip and was fine.
I've not been on the Snowdon Railway yet. Have had thoughts of trying to meet my husband up there, I think he's still got one more route up to do. The logistics of us both coinciding at the top might be difficult though.
That sounds like a great plan , definitely a good way to have a trip out together allowing you the best of both worlds .
You could tell me what the new cafe is like too by testing it out while you wait.
I've been up there since it was built but we always have a picnic ( goodness knows why , yet another thing to carry up the flipping hill!! ) .
You may even be driven up there by one of our family friends who now works as a driver on the Snowdown Railway after years of practise on the small trains at our chums Garden Railway.
You'll know it , especially if you go at speed!!!😋
love this!
I love wandering around the mountains! Just got back from Crespano del Grappa- a lovely week relaxing and enjoying some forest strolls! Even an ice cream as a treat! And a pizza as a bigger treat!😀
Just glorious! Thanks for this.
I went in a cable car at lake Maggiore,it was amazing! I couldn't do it now I'd be petrified 😖
Stunning, I see why you love living there.... We lived at the foot of Table Mountain when the children were young.... A favourite day out was a trek to the top.... They would have preferred the cable car, but once we got going they enjoyed finding "noonoo's" (insects/creepy crawlies)...
Oh, to be able to trek anywhere now would be glorious....
Wishing you all a "feel good" weekend.... Stay cool 😎🌞
Any idea how to put photos on here?
Ahhh
