I'm sorry to hijack this forum as my question has nothing to do with PMR but I know you are a lovely lot and many of you are in your 80s.
My parents (aged 86 and 89) are really struggling as are many people but they've told me they still haven't heard about getting vaccinated. I'm sure they are not alone and I suspect they should hear in the next week or two but I wondered if you could give me news of where you are in the process. They are in Somerset.
Thanks.

I imagine at present that people in more remote or rural areas are pretty low down on the list as they have only had the vaccine that requires a cold chain at -70C during transport. That isn't a problem for anywhere that is within a short distance of a hospital with the required facilities but not even all hospitals do.
Agree with PMRpro - probably to do with the actual vaccine- and the transportation/storage. Think the Pfizer one has mainly gone to major hospitals (although some did go to Dorset County, and that’s not a large one) - hopefully when they start to roll out the AZ version next week and it can be actioned in surgeries, things will speed up.
Thanks everyone (you are so much better than Facebook!). That's sort of reassuring as it seems unlikely they've simply been forgotten about. I have heard it can depend on your Trust but as to rural locality, I do know that people from Dartmoor have had it (they have to go to Okehampton). I shall stop worrying about this issue - plenty of other things to worry about.
I guess it's just a matter of trying to be patient! PMRpro hit the nail on the head, when she talked about rural areas being less likely to be contacted.
I've had my first vaccination , and I know of four or five others in our village (close to Leamington Spa), who have also had their first one. My brother, who is four years older than me has heard nowt! It's also been a matter of supply - our Primary Care Group got just the one batch of 975 doses to begin with, and they had to use them up smartish. My notification came by text, but I think there are plenty of older folk for whom the GP Practices don't have a mobile number.
My guess is that it will all speed up considerably from next week when they get the "Oxford" vaccine going.
Not that long to go now, after all we've been through.
In Norfolk...my neighbours are 84 and 85, being vaccinated next week, at a surgery....sister in law is 80, has to ring to book on Monday for local N&N hospital.....seem to be on the ball here so to speak.....
My neighbour next door but one who is 84 has had the first jab of the vaccine. I am 87 and have heard nothing. We are on the border of Greater London, in Surrey.
