Diagnosed last Jan PMR/GCA, put on 40 mg pred. Now at 11.25.
I took a metabolic panel blood test on Feb 7 which showed non-fasting glucose at 101 mg/dL ((70-99 mg/dL). Checking earlier tests, all non-fasting, I t was 104 last May, 92 in July, 117 in Sept, 99 in November. Seems to have jumped around a bit.
My A1c has been at 5.6 (4.8-5.6) since I’ve been on pred. Last test Dec. 7.
I’ve not been eating bread, pasta, rice, etc and very little sugar, some quinoa, potatoes, and steel-cut oatmeal and some 85% cocoa chocolate bars. Walking 20 minutes a day.
I did get off my program some over the holidays and last two months... lots of family issues and financial stress plus lots of rainy cold weather so not walking as much.
Should I request more tests? A fasting glucose or another A1c? My GP and rheumy have never said anything about these levels, I doubt my rheumy has even looked at them. They were ordered by my GP. This time the GP’s office called wanting to discuss.
I would appreciate your thoughts.
