The Birdie 6 Saga Continues! For Daisy.

Second in command in the Cockatiel order this is Rodney the flying Ace!.. Now quiffless in his older years he was named after Rod Stewart because of his magnificent barnet!

Dennis, named after Dennis Law (footballer) also for his quiff barnet had passed away earlier!..( Don't think Dennis had been out of his cage before we had him!)

Rodney joined OH every day on her lunchtime table. Loved his granary bread.

Haven't got digital photos with them all !.. Different photo world now eh!

My mothers budgie Joey was an amazing talker & personality. Big tumour developed on his hip & he joined our changing gang!

"Wat yow doing" he would say in mothers voice as he landed on our shoulders.

Star he was & very wary of Oliver! (the boss)

I think what kept that feathered lad going was the little sips of a white wine that kept us going at the time! It was a sharpish cheepo called Koara Creek! .. Ping! Those little eyes would register!..Hit the spot there! Ta!

The two female Cockatiels we had, Blondie & Goldie, were beautiful & not the usual markings or colour!..Blondie flew in from outside & Goldie we did buy...! The males aren't the sharpest tools in the box but these pair were a whole new dimension!!

Marti was a named rescue Budgie from someone who was fond of Martell brandy & a cobalt blue. Very delicate long claws & shy he was.

Toby, I've been reminded, we did buy...A paleish blue. The youngest in the 6.

We did buy a nasty piece of work, who shall remain nameless, who went back the next week after causing chaos in birdland!!

Hey! .. This is like Psychotherapy.......................

They sound like a complete joy! Thanks for posting.

It was a madhouse when they were all flying round the room.

My madhouse went home last week. I miss it. Are you having insomnia too? I can hear or could hear the dawn chorus.

in reply to SheffieldJane

Yes I've had a rubbish nights sleep. Once the mind goes on a runner it's time to get on the laptop. I seem to be forever trying to clear my throat or coughing! Sorted some paperwork that needed doing so that's a plus point.

I can imagine the quiet in your household after the tribe have departed. You must miss all the activity & buzz going on...Don't think I could stand much noise these days & have avoided any meet ups! I'm fine with one on ones but gatherings stress me out. Especially with the family jungle beat!!! I'm better talking to total strangers, I can reinvent myself!!

Me too re-big social groups. I find them very tiring, definitely worse since I got this thing. Sorry about your chestiness. Mine dragged on for ages. My nose would become completely blocked and my mouth completely dry. I felt like I was suffocating. Gone now. It is the turn of the knees. My walk is a vulgar spraddle!

I don’t know why I become glitteringly awake in the small hours. I sometimes feel better and more lively than the whole previous day. Actually, I think it is my favourite time, with only the foxes and owls to keep me company. Good old Adrenals I think.

The pred has altered my Circadian clock I would say! A natural Owl all my life I'm all over the place now... The OH who's a Lark has never seen so much of me!!!

My heart meds don't help the cough & I ought to sort out a tilting bed after all the great information I received on my sleeping problem post last year.

I like the idea of a tilting bed, high pillows hurt your neck. I really thought we would come out of this unscathed one day, I’m beginning to wonder. See you at 3.28 am.

Yes what will life on the other side be like? Can't imagine.

in reply to SheffieldJane

Yep. Tilting bed the way forward eh!!

Your bird family is lovely. Glad they fly out and about. A bird in a cage is a sad thing to me 😓 We don't get the Dawn chorus till winter passes close to March l believe.

in reply to bunnymom

Our birdies were never a "lock in" other than to keep em safe. They took some convincing to go home sometimes & you had to let it go! They knew where they wanted to kip for the night!

Mine are singing at around 4 am unless it’s bitterly cold. I love it.

I am wondering just what the nasty bit of work was doing, the mind boggles !

in reply to Grants148

He started attacking the the others even Oliver backed off!.. Most unusual for a new arrival. Just not safe for the gang!..Very dominant or Barmy!! No pred involved either!!!

PD thank you so much for these lovely memories and the photo. I laughed so much as I read. Who knew these birdies have such a variety of characteristics! It’s quite captivating. I get such a shock when I hear a bird “ talk”. It’s hard to believe that they don’t understand what they are saying!!! I love these stories thank you.

in reply to Daisychain12

Yes the voice seems to come without the beak moving! They may not understand what they are saying but they certainly pick up on the emotional reaction they get from us. With or without a treat! Who ever came up with the description "bird brain" was very one dimensional in perception themselves! Only got to look at the Parrot & Crow family how intelligent they can be...Once a bond is there our pets can read us like a book.!

It was interesting on the Planet Blue 2 series how they have discovered a fish that uses a tool to break the shell of a clam to get to it's meal! That's not daft is it!!
