Possible need for an ICD if MRI confirms "heart injection fraction" problem! Has anyone had this procedure while on pred? Is there any implications for dosage! Currently on 10 mg. Hopefully can it be done via a local anaesthetic & overnight stay. Thanks

Anyone Had An ICD Fitted While On Pred?
Yes it is done under local anaesthetic with sedation and normally you stay overnight afterwards. Just tell your doctor you are taking steroids. Their opinion can vary from doctor to doctor or so it seems.
Sorry no idea pepper. Wish I could help. Good luck my friend xxx
Thanks Daisy.
I have no personal experience to offer you, just my very best wishes for a successful and a straight forward procedure.
Have a restful Christmas and a happy healthy New Year.
Not what I wanted to hear my friend.
A lot of medical procedures we still think of as major are now every day to the medics. I think this is one of those that sounds more frghtening than it is. Enough people have pacemakers etc today and are still walking around. Try not to stress too much.
Have they said when you can expect to have it done ?
Thinking of you, ATB,
Thank You. MRI first probably in Jan. to confirm diagnosis. I've had my heart meds changed for the moment. Stopped Amlodipine (CC Blocker). Doubled up on Bisoprolol (Beta Blocker) & Perindoprol (ACE). Certainly feel more tired on this regime!
Give me an operation every time over GCA is my thinking scats.
It's good to know I still have a heart eh!! ATB
Probably all you needed - feeling more tired, at least you won't be over doing things.
We knew you still had a heart, you show it here regularly.
Take care.
You have a magnificent heart my dear friend xxx
Thank you. It just seems it needs a leg up,so to speak,at the moment!!
Now you look after yourself pronto Daisy! Your latest post is very concerning! Think you should be under hospital care now!
Hi there,
I had an ICD/defibrillater fitted while on a 15mg dose of pred. Nobody treated it as a problem. As the previous post said, it was done under local anaesthetic. I stayed overnight. No problem at all.
Thanks for that polymy. It's good to hear. Not a definite yet for myself! MRI first.
It’s good that you are having an MRI first. You can’t have one ever again if you have a pacemaker.
Didn't know that. Thanks for that information.
Apparently there are new generation pacemakers that can be MRI'd and there are actually protocols in place for patients deemed to have an absolute necessity for an MRI.

Looked this up on NICE. Lot of cost for this procedure! Am I worth it! Tough it is on the front line of NHS!
More worth it than some of the things that get paid for...
Very true! I could say the same about our council! It's the way it's going I think pro! NHS. Tougher financial decisions & value judgements! (But who's?)
Probably always that way but expectations for health provision are so much higher now & very few of us live the perfect healthy lives the medical blurb pumps at us!
Well that's my rant for the evening! Thanks for all your input into the forum.
Breaking News!!! There's going to be a death over Christmas at the Knicker Factory in Coronation Street!! You heard it here! ATB
Pepperdoggie I wish you a fun, peaceful Christmas with a year filled with hope. Will be praying that all goes smoothly and you recover your zip. One more thing on top of it all can be too much. We want you recovered for gardening time. 🎅
Thank you bm kind comment. Different lives lived for us all mate! Hard to get on with this GCA! It's certainly something different!
Have a peaceful Christmas & look forward to that SPRING. ATB
