Hi. I have had laser treatment in just this way because of high pressure. It is totally painless so don't worry. Unfortunately the results weren't long lasting so I then had both lenses replaced ( same as cataract procedure) which was very successful. So don't worry. The procedures are simple and they do work. Take care.

I had to have this done because of high pressure caused by predisone. Mine was done as an emergency so I had no choice. It was painless and by the time I was back to the car I could text. Take someone with you though and ask them to look out for you coming out of the room where it was done as I seemed to have a haze hiding my vision so couldn't see my husband in the waiting room. I had been warned by my sister about that. I also have drops as the laser surgery wasn't effective on it's own. Good luck.

Thank you for your reply.

Did they do both eyes at the same time?

Yes they did and no one was more scared than me.I had refused it before but my pressures rose and I had an ache in the eye that wouldn't go away and felt really sick. They do sometimes talk about another thing they can do with lasers on me but so far I have resisted having it done. I was amazed at how I soon felt normal again after it was done. Obviously you can't be at that stage but it did come on very suddenly so I would advice you have it done.

Yes that is what my Glaucoma specialist told me, that the pressure could suddenly rise even more without me being aware of it.A

lso having very small eyes and being faresighted were more reasons to have it done as a precusion of narrow angle Glaucoma. I am booked for 15th December now for this OP.

What are your pressure readings? Mine were about 26 and 27 at the time. They are still too high now at 23 but they are just watching them. I am also long sighted. I am glad mine was done the same day as I went to A and E as I didn't have time to worry about it. In fact when the Dr said she could do it there and then I was so pleased . All you are aware of is bright lights and just stare where they tell you to look.

I saw the occulist last September. I had 25 in my right eye and 21 in my left eye. He referred me to a Glaucoma Specalist and gave me eye drops Glautan for reducing intracular pressure. He sent me to do different tests and this month I went with the results to this Glaucoma oculist.

My new pressure with the drops fall to 17 and 19, but she advised me to undergo this laser treatment to prevent sudden Glaucoma.

I am higher than you even after the surgery. They wouldn't let me try just drops. You may be able to leave off the drops once you have had it done. They don't like to give the drops really as they get absorbed into the body, that's what I have been told but now I have them and have had the surgery.

Sorry to hear that in spite of having had the Laser treatment you still have to take eye drops. How much Predisone are you taking? Maybe when you will be off Predisone one day your eye pressure will be also under 20.

I am taking 17mg at the moment. I am also on Benapali, did my 12th injection yesterday. I don't feel it is working and my steroids are higher than when I started on them over 2 years ago. I was put on them because of polymyalgia but have also developed RA, although I don't feel that diagnosis is really right. I saw a rheumatologist yesterday and he was a very abrupt man and running an hour behind. I made a list to ask him but when I asked the results of my knee x rays done earlier in the year he said that he hadn't time to tell me. I had waited 8 months to see him or someone. I also asked about my hip which seemed to annoy him as my chiropractor said that it was being ignored and could turn to avascular necrosis which could be serious. He said "So do you want an MRI scan done then?" I just said yes if it would show what was going on there. I also had a blood test done to see if I have vasculitis but only because I asked if they were sure I don't have it.

To see a rheumatologist seems to be a big problem everywhere.I was advised to see one every 3 months, but when I want an appointment there is a waiting list of 4 to 5 months as they work in the hospitals and received patients only once a week. Then also very few people specialize in Rheumathology.

Do you live in England? Is this the service of National Health?

Hence I found a lovely lady doctor, who gave me her email address and always rings me back at the end of the day, when she is in the practice in my town. Maybe you can find a more understanding

doctor in your town too?

I believe that Benapali injections are for R.A.

I have PMR and GCA for the past 2 years and was as high as 60 mg Predisone.

I tried Methotrexate , felt terrible with it and stopped it after 3 weeks when I read that it takes 12 to 24 months until it may work and lot 's of people found that it was a waste of time.

I don t want to try out any other med. nor Arava, nor Imuran.

I believe that a very slow tappering is the only solution to get off Predisone eventually.

Good luck and especially I wish better health.

This is the National health in England. You don't get a choice of who to see and I seem to see a different Dr each time. If they say "See you in 6 months " you can be sure it will be more, as in my 8 month wait. I had two appointments cancelled and then they brought it forward, but it was still an 8 month wait. Slow taper for GCa and pmr, yes but now I have RA I'm not sure, can't seem to get very low. I have tried Methotrexate but it didn't work, also Hydroxychloroquine which also didn't work. Good luck with your slow taper.
