Nose blood while on Pred

This is part query and also an observation. When I was on 60mg Pred I did notice when I woke up in mornings, there was blood in my nostrils. When I blew nose, there were bits of blood but never during the rest of the day. Asked Rheumy, and had no idea. However, NOW that no longer on Pred., after 3months off, the blood in nose has disappeared. So am assuming it was the Pred. Any answers out there?

I have this from time to time. I've always put it down to the fact that pred thins the skin and weakens the blood vessels. Congratulations on getting off pred by the way!

Well, many thanks for clearing that up, both you and SnazzyD. Why wouldn't a Rheumy know that??? Don't answer that. I am still on TCZ and could be for another year or more, but relieved to be off Pred thank you. It really played havoc with my body and still recovering from: torn skin/bruising, weak muscles and fatigue. Now able to walk 30-45mins each morning and muscle strength returning. Do take my "stick" along which I use more for my blindness in one eye!! The only good thing about Pred was that my fingernails toughened up. Never had a nose bleed per se, just the residual blood. Your responses are very affirming and thank you for that. Good Luck to all of us. :-)

The Pred weakens the little capillaries so one is more prone to nose bleeds and surface haemorrhages in the eye and of course, general bruises. If you have a dry atmosphere, dust or any irritant the tissues are less able to cope. I remember having dry nose and eyes with Pred and it reduced with dose.

I had terrible nose bleeds coming down from 30mg. No one knew why but I suggested skin thinner in nose through pred. Experts said Maybe... Had them till I was on 12mg and none since thankfully as so scary.

Oh dear. Hope all continues to be good. Fortunately, didn't have bleeds -- just blood clots in the nose in mornings.

No probs now as much lower dose but so bad one night had to sit in A&E for 4 hours. Still no Dr so as the bleed was lessening, we went home and all OK. I was so fatigued I was Oving up the will to live. Also got a bleed at a funeral and had to walk up the aisle holding a bloody hanky to my face 🙄

Keep hanging in there and try to see the bright side, eventually. Yes, Pred does its work, but sure hope we don't have to see it again. Good Luck and enjoy the w/e.
