My lovely GP, who has looked after my family so well for over 30 years, is retiring. I’m gutted!
He diagnosed my PMR at first glance. He’s always been available at a few hours notice and has often phoned to see how we are if we are on a new med or treatment...we are really going to miss him.
So today I go to see a new GP for the first time. Just to register and go over what I’m on and why etc. I’m really nervous, I shouldn’t be but I am.
Ah well, fingers crossed.

I know how you feel l dreaded my GP retiring, and my dentist, but inevitably they did.l am sure you will get used to a new doctor,in my practice you see various different doctors, whoever is available, and it is not the same as the doctor who had treated you for years and always seemed to have more time and l must say was more thorough.l hope everything goes well for you.
Well, exactly, that’s the type of practice we now have to go to.
We didn’t actually see a doctor today although we could have if either of us needed to. The nurse just went through the forms we filled out. She seemed to know her stuff. When I said I was down to 4.5 mgs Pred, she said she presumed I fluctuate depending on how I’m feeling. Ah sure let’s see how it goes.
They say it's a good idea to have a doctor about your own age - but obviously not when we reach 'retirement' age. I have a youngish (30s) GP who I 'acquired' when moving to a regional area - and he is very good. He is respectful, empathic and listens to all and everything i have to say and reads info I have offered. He works 'with' me (not 'against me) and I with him - you may get as lucky as I have - but keep moving on until you do - after all we don't settle for inadequate tradespeople and this is our 'health'.
