Adcal

I’ve just been prescribed Adcal I’ve been on Pred since April started at 15mg currently in 10mg and due to have a blood test next week to see whether I can taper further. I think I read somewhere that I shouldn’t take the Adcal at the same time as Pred can anyone confirm that is this correct please?

Hi,

Best to leave a couple of hours between, then they both work more efficiently.

Most do Pred -breakfast, Adcal lunch & evening meal times.

Thank you that’s what I’ve done for last two days but it’s just more to remember!

It isn't the end of the world if you don't - but it is better to leave 2-3 hours between taking the pred and the calcium - pred for breakfast, calcium for lunch and tea...

What a diet to be reduced-to PMRpro! I so much prefer steak and kidney pie.

Don't take a dose any larger than 500 mg calcium at any one time. Slightly less even better. Yoghurt helps with absorbing calcium from supplements, apparently. Two other supplements are D, which I assume is in your adcal, but also K2 (not K1). Vitamin K2 will not be covered by insurance but may well be worth taking anyway, depending on how much is in your diet. Many of us are deficient in it because of the way animals are raised now (grain fed). A person posting on the Patient forum recently tried natto, fermented soy, the source of most of the K2 supplements, and found it relatively palatable, although by most accounts it's an acquired taste.
