Has anyone with PMR had a partial or total knee replacement? I had an arthroscopy (washout) of my knee in December, but looks like some form of replacement now necessary as no real sign of improved mobility. Following surgery I had to increase steroids as experienced quite a flare. Will probably need to do same following next bout of surgery.

Hi Maryan-Fred, I'll be watching your post closely, as I believe I may have a torn meniscus and know (via an ultrasound) that I've developed a Baker's cyst! I am seeing an Orthopaedic surgeon next week.
So sorry to hear about your flare, after the surgery. That is one thing I'm weighting, if I do need arthroscopy... Hmmm? Do I want to be able to walk, or do I want to take 5 steps back and suffer through another taper down?????

Best of luck if you do have to have a total knee replacement!
I'll keep you posted.
I have had MRI of both knees, both are in bad shape with radial, longitudinal meniscus tears, chronic tear of ACL, cartilage degeneration, and scar tissue from previous injury. I don't see my ortho surgeon until Aug. 30th, but have many questions about managing PMR, Pred, and knee injuries/treatment (likely arthroscopy at the very least).
Will stay tuned.
I had a total knee replacement years ago as the only option following an injury. The other knee was replaced electively a few years later. I have never regretted either. My knees are both strong and happy instead of chronically painful. This all pre-dated PMR by several years for me, so I didn't have that concern. Should you need the surgery, pre-arm yourself with the loving advice and support you will find on this forum. And if you speak with the anesthetist prior to surgery, he or she should be aware of the PMR and will probably assist with a little extra steroid intra-op. Best of luck on your journey.
I have returned from hospital today after a total hip replacement. I had reduced Pred from 9 to 5 mg per day in 9 weeks at request of the surgeon without adverse reaction. The anaesthetist decided to give me extra Pred during the operation, but I dropped down to 5 the following day. After my BP dropped too low and heart rate went up, they moved me to a high dependency room for close monitoring. I had a comparative CT to check for blood clots, but none found. I was constantly being sick and felt dizzy. Fortunately, things settled and I was released today. The knee is doing well, they say.
I was in a private hospital on the NHS and the care was excellent.

Crikey. Some experience. Hope you continue to feel better.
