Help with this forum (support group?) please?

Hello again, could someone please point me in the right direction re using this forum- I feel I may be here some time!

1. Where do I find any posts I have previously made?

2. When needing more advice is it better to continue on from those posts (if I can find them!) if its relevant, or should I make a new post?

3. Where can I find the 'pinned posts'? In particular is there one for low/no carb diet for avoiding weight gain whilst on steroids?

Thanking you in advance.

Angie xx

Hi Angie

Depends what device you are using - iPhone and App not so many facilities

If you into your profile - ie tap your picture- it will bring up all your previous posts and replies you have made just tap of relevant one a it comes up on another page.

Pinned posts are on the right of the page if you are on an iPad or PC but not on iPhone. Not sure about app , I couldn’t get on with so don’t use.

There is a search button on iPad/PC so just type the relevant word or words and it should bring up all posts relating to that subject.

Probably best to start a new post, then everyone gets notified whereas if you just comment on existing post it may get missed, only the person you are replying to or if someone has ticked the box to follow post get notified. You can always refer back to your previous one.

Hope this helps.

1. Click on your user name on your post - it will take you to your profile page. There is a set of tabs, Posts, replies... You will see all the posts you have made listed under posts, replies under replies.

2. It depends - if it is in response to someone who has answered you, continue there. If it is new, start a new thread. Or do both. Not everyone will see a new addition to an old post, only the person you reply to or anyone who has followed that thread - so you will always get a response from me, DL, Sheffield Jane and a few others but by no means everyone.

3. Pinned posts are at the side of the page in the right hand vertical bar. But at the top right corner is the Search box - type in low carb and it should bring up a load of threads. (It does.) Doubt there is a pinned post that is particularly relevant!

But in addition to low carb - smaller portions sizes does help and as jinasc says you can fool your eyes and also your stomach if you go back in time and use smaller plates! Dining plates have increased in diameter from about 7 or 8in when we were young to 11 or even 12 inches nowadays! Try it for youself: put exactly the same portion on a dining plate and a dessert plate and ask someone which is bigger! There is also a trick with the colour of plates and the table background colour. Psychology helps a lot!!!

Are you implying we are the ones with nothing better to do 🤣.

Been to proper Pilates session (as opposed to my own “that’ll do type”) this morning, first time in 3 months....and I’m still alive and capable of typing ...so I haven’t disintegrated as much as I thought! 😊 🤸🏻‍♂️(Not!)

Not at all - but that we tick "follow" on a post before we read any more...

1 Tap on your face

2 A continued conversation in a thread can throw up all sorts of useful stuff. But if the thread goes off piste ( guilty) start a new one to get your particular point addressed.

3 Tap right for pinned posts. Carbs and sugar are worse for us than well people. The cravings are much less if you keep away from the cake.

Welcome and do stay with us as long as you need to. I have never known such a remarkable mix of people. They cover all bases.

About keeping away from the cake...it's the only thing left that makes life worth living...

I am with you there . As my mother used to say “ do as I say, not as I do”. Now where is that Swiss roll?

I have found, however, I don't need to eat the whole cake. Just a mouthful with the last dose of vitamins in the evening does it.

Hi

Others have covered technical issues. I use a book from diabetes UK that provides over 300 pages full of details of carb content to everyday foods in 3 portion sizes (with plate sizes) it is just a photo of the food and the some nutritional info. It's not a diet as such. There are lots of websites on low carb/high fat diets or keto diets. I tend to use the book mentioned because it has everyday foods. I gave some veg low carb books and presume there are 10x number of books for meat eaters .

Carbs and cals by cheyette and balolia is the book I mentioned.

Tap on face is timely learn (was wondering how to do that myself!)

Decided to search "shingles" on the forum, as I have it on my arm, and see I am doing everything I should be doing (no need to bother doctor). I search most things now prior to posting with success (says the technophobe)...

Found out from another recent post to up steroids when you have a bad chest infection....wish I'd searched a little earlier....

And to finish on A positive (as I'm coming out of a rather painful period....):

I bought Kate Gilbert's book to read on hols next week! Yay! This forum is the best!

Just need my hearing to return to the left ear and the pulled muscle to mend! There is always something on the old body agenda with PMR!

Happy Mother's Day weekend to all!

Happy Mothers’ Day to you too Pongo13. Keep an eye on your Shingles though, we do have a compromised immune system. You are having one of those runs of bad luck aren’t you? Enough now!

Are you also angiek?

For some reason my reply is going to angiek.
