Hello,

Have you had a cold, even a mild one or been on a plane? Even a bit of catarrh at the back of the nose/throat can cause this. Might be your jaw bone, or ear wax. Get someone to have a look, especially if you are getting discomfort. No poking!

Have a read of this to see if it fits

No doubt the Aunties will add their thoughts.

Thank you for this useful post Snazzy. I woke up with earache that I guess is post flight trouble. I have Psoriasis in my feet in the summer ( just clearing up after Australia) and in my ears in the winter ( to the extent of producing no useful earwax). This can become severely infected and I have had pretty severe ear infections over the years. The Otitis ear drops that contain an anti fungal and anti biotic work quickly but I worry about using them long term. This is definitely a chronic problem. With PMR I have noticed some Tinnitus and blocked sensations, coupled with a tendency to a blocked or slightly runny nose ( to the extent that I cannot breathe through my nose and my mouth becomes extremely dry in the night). I have not mentioned this to my GP of late because I could become a permanent fixture in the surgery with all these peripheral symptoms.

I think it is linked Katrinaroper but would be treated with something palliative and the link not medically understood.

You could ask your doctor, because of your psoriasis, about using Earcalm or similar, as a prophylactic instead of antibiotic/fungal type. All it is is sterile vinegar diluted to the correct concentration. I use it at the slightest sign of problems. It can be bought over the counter in the UK.

It doesn’t take much clag at all to block the eustscian tube in some. You could try the saline nasal sprays before bed. Worth a whirl.

Thank you Snazzy. I had a wonderful old ENT consultant who gave my ears a washout each month. I was completely fine for 2 years. Alas he retired and his effective methods were not seen as economic. They’d rather give you a drug and get rid of you these days. I will look into the Earcalm that you suggest. At least I won’t be storing up future problems.

I notice an excess of ear wax soon after a flare. I have a rubber bulb- thing for cleaning ears - very gentle, not at all like the instrument of torture used by medics and which I gather is no longer approved of. Don't care - it works!!!

HiKatrinaroper,l have a pulse sound in my ear,it is linked to my heart rate. I do not know what has caused this. It was scary when a couple of times in the past year it kept missing beats and the same thing was happening when l felt my pulse. I was referred to cardiology but by the time l got an appointment this had stopped happening. I am constantly aware of this noise in my head and hope the pulse stays constant. My GP said it was probably the PMR pinching the blood vessels in my neck. Nothing has been done about this,if it happens again l shall go to A&E. I am sure that your problem is more than likely caused by ear wax ,it might be worth asking your GP,all the best,l hope you can get it sorted out
