I am luckily going to a hotel with a spa soon, is it sensible to have a massage or not really? I would ask the doctor but I get more sensible advice from you lot 😀

Yes, yes, yes.... I was diagnosed in early December 2017 and had an amazing massage (at a hotel in York) on December 20th. I did explain to the Masseuse that I had both PMR & GCA and she used a gentle touch throughout, which I found was relaxing, calming and didn't cause me any issues whatsoever!

I'm in the process of having another dozen prescribed therapeutic massages because of myofascial pain syndrome, associated with the PMR - I look forward to them. Mine are the heavy-duty variety so there is a lot of heavy fingerwork but I don't suffer afterwards even if it is sore during it. And it makes SUCH a difference - once I have completed the series I can usually get to a lower dose of pred.

More on your level - my daughter treated us both to a hot stone massage when she was here in the summer - oh joy!!!!!

Hi,

Go for it, but as mamaici1 says just let the masseur know your health issues.

Hi Karina

Yep, I can endorse the idea of Massage - but only if in capable 'hands' (excuse the medical pun!) and if you don't have osteoporosis or health issues which might not be suited to this therapy.

Any good, professional Masseur should assess your health history and any relevant health conditions before putting you through what can be quite an invigorating process at the same time as being a temporarily exhausting one!

I used to have deep-muscle massage for a bad back some years ago, and it certainly helped to loosen-up seized muscles and joints. Within reason, I'm sure this applies to relieving some of the aches and pains of PMR symptoms too.

Hope this helps, let 'Us Lot' know how you get on? ;-)

I get Massage weekly at a Massage school. I simply tell the student what I want, where to concentrate (neck, shoulders and feet) in addition to every place else. As a hyper person, this is really helpful and affordable. Tai Chi/Quigong also helps. I have severe osteoporosis but like deep pressure.

Treat yourself, you’re worth it and let us know how you feel.

Hi 1964-karina

I am currently seeing a Chiropractor for pain in my left leg and hip caused by Piriformis syndrome (pain in the buttocks). She knows I have PMR so gives me quite a deep massage every 10 days. It hurts at the time but does help the pain afterwards. I have not noticed any bruising after treatment. I have just reduced to 8mg Pred and will stay there for 4 weeks before trying to reduce to 7.5mg.

Enjoy your stay at the spa hotel.

Yes I love my massages and get them once a month on a regular basis. I get a relaxing massage (a lighyer touch/pressure) now, where I used to get deep tissue massage. It also is wonderful when i get hot rocks laid along my spine ahhhh.
