Arvine, I’m so sorry to hear what a bad reaction you are experiencing to the pneumonia vaccine. I haven’t had the vaccine but, not being a ‘live’ vaccine, I feel sure there will be many who have received the vaccine whilst on Pred and who will reply later. According to an article I read recently, if someone gets sick following such vaccinations, it is a sign that the body’s immune response is kicking in, producing antibodies and the symptoms as it “fights off” the ‘virus’. All the more difficult when our bodies are immuno-compromised, I suspect. The same article recommended taking probiotics and prebiotics to help. As far as probiotics are concerned, live yoghurt is a good starter - it’s been a mainstay of mine for years. I do hope you soon feel better, and lots of good luck wishes for your son on the 15th as well.
Hello, some people get these flu like symptoms after vaccination even without Pred. Your immune system has been stimulated by various constituents of the vaccine. The cough bit though sounds like you might have had a viral thing as well as or instead of, but who knows?
I'm sorry to hear about your son, and please God the transplant will help him!
I recently had a whole raft of vaccines whilst on Pred, as I am Coeliac and the current thinking is vaccinate coeliacs for everything! this included the pneumonia vaccine and a lot of different meningitis vaccines. I was fine with no side effects from any of them.. Perhaps you are extra sensitive? There is no accounting for peoples different reactions to vaccines! (However as I am on Methotrexate I was banned from any live vaccine!) I also have, not a sore throat, but a permanent hoarseness and loss of singing voice! Said to be due to my Asthma inhalers, but was never like this before taking pred even when on inhalers!
I hope you are feeling better soon and that the news about your son is good.
Stella: have they checked your thyroid function?
Arvine: sounds like lots of stress still. I have had pneumonia jab but a while ago. Can't remember any issues. There are lots of viruses around at moment. Best wishes for 15th🌻
No Poopadoop, but I'll ask my GP about it when I next go in. thanks for the tip
thank you so much for your well wishes
Oh Dear, so sorry you are feeling poorly. I am sending you a giant virtual Hug❣️
Can you give yourself a day or two of pampering. Lots of tea and a good book maybe..or a couple of long snuggles in your duvet?
Hopefully the benefits of the vaccine will surpass the discomfort of this moment . I have had pneumonia twice in last year, and been quite ill each time, not to mention the craziness of multiple xray, CT scans and antibiotics.
I send prayers for you and your son. This is every mother’s nightmare, and I hope the procedure results are positive. 💜
Kind Regards, Jerri
I just want to echo a get well soon to you and wishes for a most successful transplant for your son.
