Anyone on Prednisone taken the vaccine?

Has anyone on Prednisone taken the vaccine yet? I am getting Moderna in the am and I plan to take my pred dose with breakfast as usual. I am down to 2.5 -3 mg so on reducing plan. Doctor left message just take as usual but I wanted to know what you all think. I remember our PMRPro said don't worry about our meds just get vaccine. So I jumped at chance to get it tomorrow.

But I think I am a bit anxious...

Thank you all!

I would take my tiny dose, have my vaccine and if I felt at all unwell I might take an extra 5 mgs for the next few days then go straight back to my usual dose. Good luck! Lucky you!

I didn’t hear any advice about changing dose , so I had the Pfizer with no side effects at all- I’m on 5 1/2 mg . You’ll be fine! X

No in the U.K. we will have to wait for up to 12 weeks for our second dose.

Hi Bluegirl17— I received the Moderna vaccine three days ago and had no reaction whatsoever—not even an achy arm. My husband had the same experience. I took my prednisone as usual. No problem there either. Good luck!

To my logic (for what that’s worth) skipping Pred for a day is pointless anyway. It takes a good two weeks for the body to muster the response to the vaccine, not just on the big day. Stopping Pred for that length of time is not an option either. It’s a tiddly dose as well so why worry.

Take the pred dose - take the vaccine.

I had my first dose. The day of I took one gram extra of prednisone, and also the following day so normally I take 5 1/2 those two days I took 6 1/2 then back to normal. Didn't have any issues but I'll probably try that when I do my second dose as well. I did stop all acyclovir at my doctor's request as it is an anti-viral drug I take to prevent herpes. It was very easy and NO side effects at all and I have all kinds of allergies, but no reaction at all. I got the Pfizer shot.

I had the first pzifer dose on Saturday. I am taking 4mg of prednisone. My arm was sore the next day but nothing different than a flu shot. I just am praying I get the second dose on time. I have another autoimmune condition that I am concerned may flare with the vaccine so keeping my fingers crossed all goes well. Good luck to you.
