thrush
I get thrush at the drop of an antibiotic as well as having a steroid inhaler anyway which makes it more or less a permanent resident. I only ever get treatment when it is overwhelming (usually if I get run down or have other medical problems ongoing) as I have found that a daily dollop of live yoghurt does the trick. I also take a bio-active supplement each day which has the added benefit of helping my insides too.
Other than that, Daktarin OTC for oral thrush, and Canesten for the other areas seem to me to be OK.
Early days I got a couple of bouts and had to have stuff from doctors. Touch wood - nothing since.
I have had a lot of thrush especially when on high doses of Prednisone with Methotrexate. I used chortrimethazole lozenges which did help some. Also used a "magic mouthwash". I still get occasional mout sores, so have to be very careful Hope you get some help. It is a miserable infection.
When on high doses of prednisone for GCA got a thrush infection......prescription gargle from rheumatologist cleared it up in a week.....I eat yogurt every morning which I think helps.....call your doc!
hi yur majesty had thrush afew times i believe it was fluconazale that cured mine check with yur gp
I have thrush of the tongue right now. I am from the US, the prescribed med is Nystatin, "swish and swallow" one teaspoon 4x's a day. This is from steroids my doc says. I was on 20 mg pred due to a flair, now down to 16mg for 3 wks. I have had this for more than 3 wks. Candida is stubborn. But is getting better. I read where a weakened swish of hydrogen peroxide is effective as a home remedy or an old time remedy is gentian violet which will stain your mouth and teeth purple. But there are other home remedies that could be effective. Wish I could do the yogurt. But alas, can't tolerate any dairy. Good luck. There are so many bad things with this disease that I feel this is just an annoyance compared to what other people are suffering. But again, who wants a yeast proliferating in your body!
Since started steroids over 2 years ago I frequently have thrush. My GP gave me Flucanozole which works well with 1 tablet each time it occurs.
