Mouth Ulcer relief

There was a post recently about mouth ulcers. Well I have developed 3 really painful ones on the side of my tongue, none of the over the counter remedies have worked, like Bonjella. As a last resort I gargled with 78 mg soluble aspirin and held it in my mouth for a bit, then spat it out. Complete relief from pain - who knew?

Much maligned aspirin. I know we don't take it with Pred. But I didn't swallow. Hope this helps someone else!

iglu gel is good too. Much better than Bonjella as it works differently and sticks to the ulcer once you master the knack of getting it to stick to your mouth and not your finger.

Wow, thank you, Jane. That is an amazing discovery, it will certainly help me! I'm always getting those horrible ulcers.. The mtx made it worse, while the pred seems to keep the canker sores at bay.

Hope you are doing well.😘

If you had mouth ulcers with MTX they probably didn't give you enough folic acid...

They told me to take one every week, 24 hours after the infusion... Guess I should have mentioned it but I really didn't connect the two because I used to get ulcers quite a lot...maybe vitamin D defficiency?

In any case, not on my anymore and vitamin D is hopefully stable at the last count.

Hope you are enjoying your Sunday, safe from Lucifer , the heat wave.

Lucifer broke! It was a pleasant morning - even went for a walk and an icecream in town :-) By the time we got back to the car the clouds were seriously black and then it rained and thundered! The wind was from the west - and the rain reached almost to the back of the balcony! Temperature fell from 23C to 15C - positively COLD! Then it cleared for a bit until the next lot arrived.

A village just up the road had 4 inches of rain in just under an hour last night, we only had an inch. The thunderstorm was quite impressive though! Didn't manage to flush the rock concert going on in the village out though :-( Went on WAAAAY past midnight - what a racket!!

Sounds like paradise to me. Lucifer stays here all day and night...a very rude visitor

Same further south here - but living in the mountains does help with the temperature.

If this global warming keeps up, we are all going to have to head for the hills! 😱

Mouth ulcers also respond to anti- acid tablet, like Tums, held to the lesion. I have also used baby teething remedies for the pain. There is an over the counter oral herpes ointment which really works quickly. (Pricey, but worth it).

Good luck. Jerri

Are you on Methotrexate? It is known to cause sores in the mouth. And in the short month I was on it I had lots of problems. Extra folic acid will help that quite a bit .

Thank you Amkoffee, no I'm not but thanks for the thought. I have been wondering about supplements to build me up as I reduce Pred.

I've been using aspirin for headache all through pred journey. Think it is far less dangerous than any of the other effective pain meds out there if used carefully.

I was put on aspirin at the same time as 60 mg pred when first diagnosed with GCA nearly two years ago - never knew it was not a Good Thing!?
