Calling New Zealand
Yep, me too!
Haven't heard from daughter as yet, so assuming she's okay. Grandson in Wellington, so he might need his!
Daughter and family also OK as they are perched up high........
Daughter just texted, didn't know anything about it - she's on South Island! Grandson in Wellington just on edge of storm - no damage.
It's a seems that quakes are a way of life, so unless it's on the doorstep nobody takes much notice - except us Brits!
Hopefully those from Auckland will confirm they're all okay.
Hi - I'm in Auckland and alls fine where I am but there's terrible flooding and large numbers of people being evacuated further down the North Island.
Thanks PMRpro, it has been crazy few weeks indeed. Hope the weather settles for Easter
Hi there! The school where I work was closed yesterday because of a Civil Defence Directive due to flooding in the region but it was back to normal today. The whole country has been affected by the remnants of Aussie's Cyclone Debbie and many regions fared worse than the King Country area where I live. The whole town of Edgecumbe in the Bay Of Plenty area were evacuated yesterday due to flooding. More rain forecast for next week ! Thanks for your good wishes PMRpro .
I did wonder if it was Debbie doing the damage. I'm really rather glad that central Europe doesn't get these big weather events! Though living in mountains has its moments too! Too much precipitation whether it is wet or solid leads to landslides/avalanches but they are rather more localised. Still lethal though.
~Yes it was cyclone Debbie - would detest to have the name Debbie right now, she certainly has left her mark in more ways than one ~
I was highly amused to discover that storms have a sex change between the UK and Germany! The one that swept over the UK recently was Doris and got a male name here, Thomas I think. Not sure what that says...
Our last week here and torrential rain. Quite impressive. We are in Mangawhai just south of Whangerei. No major flooding in the area. Back to France and Spring, next, week.
I feel like I am totally 'insulated' against bad weather at least. My family (of 'origin') members in Auckland also seem OK and others in Queensland 'escaped' the worst of Debbie - while here in Western Australia we have had none of it - we even avoided the heatwaves which ravaged lots of OZ this year. But all good wishes to those who are left with exhausting recoveries and cleanups after shocking weather. While our health necessarily always preoccupies in various ways life goes on in all its ups and downs regardless !!
~Yes thank you to you all for your kind wishes - growing webbed feet but we are truly blessed in our area of Milford on the North Shore in Auckland - flooding damage to some but nothing like further south where the Rangitiki river has burst its banks flooding the town and its inhabitants.
No earthquakes here either, touch wood.
Goodness knows what winter has in store when it eventually arrives.
Never known such volatile weather worldwide - time to build an ark me thinks
Hope it's going through now, so it's lovely when I'm come out later this year! Selfish I know - sorry😉
Dunno about an ark - that would mean staying here. A space-ship would be more in my line - one that hasn't room for certain people...
Thanks PMRpro, I live in Auckland and fortunately the edge of the cyclone slid past us with not too much damage and flooding but they took a pounding further down the country.John
