Due to extreme weather conditions I am anxious to hear from any members in Italy. Can you let us all know that you are safe?

It was interesting last week - but the report in the Observer is a touch OTT about northern Italy!!! Much of the devastation has been very localised - areas of flattened trees through the forest due to hurricane force gusts, especially around Belluno but not everywhere. Some places did have 12 inches and more of rain - and there have been a lot of mud/landslides and just up the road from me there is a superb sinkhole in the middle of the road and a bit further up the edge of the road was washed away by the overflowing river! The traffic is still getting past though.

If you scroll down this

you will see some interesting pictures!

The sinkhole - including it happening.

But there are worse things in Sicily.

I think I am the only member in Italy though.

All over up here. Still wet down south but the floods there need to go.

We are just heading into our heavy wind/rainy season. Rivers are on flood watch, ...but at sea level...not uncommon

Glad you’re ok. It’s been a crazy year. I read that the streets of Venice were under 5 feet of water.

I’ve been in Venice three times when it’s been flooded. Takes all the pleasure out of wandering through the back strees away from the crowds.

They had to close the square because the standard walkway scaffolding was underwater too!

Gosh! I have never seen a sink hole happening before. The real time is just seconds! Pleased you and yours are ok.

I'm sure some locals are hoping for a dump of snow - but recent temperatures don't make that seem likely yet!
