Pelvic floor

I have had this problem on and off for over 6 years. It only comes about every 4 to 6 months so can't really be described as a huge annoyance. When I tense my pelvic floor muscle it can hurt. Like a dull ache but only when it's tensed and not sharp or really painful. It is more to one side too. I first noticed it once after sex but its not painful during sex. Only occasionally when I tense my muscle. I wondered if it could be a strain but as it has gone on for so long and not got any worse I wasn't sure. It is sometimes more noticeable when i am on my period. There are no other symptoms and don't really think it is an infection. It isn't really bad but don't want to ignore it any longer in case it is something more serious. Has anyone else experienced this? Everything else seems ok and I've recently had a smear test which was fine. All I can put it down to is the muscle!

I would suggest having it checked out by a women's health pelvic floor physiotherapist. She will do an internal exam.
