Lyrica v Cymbalta

Hello everyone!

I have been suffering with PN for about a year and have tried physical therapy and nerve blocks with little success. I have been hesitant about going on the meds suggested (Lyrica or Cymbalta) because of all of the side effects but think it may be time. Just wondering what other’s experiences have been?

Thank you in advance ❤️❤️

I started Cymbalta 20 mg about a year ago and I knew I would have some side effects because I do with everybody occasion just until my body adjusts and sure enough I had some nausea no appetite loose stools and tiredness for about 2 to 3 weeks and then I started feeling a lot better and noticed that my nerve pain was going away I also take 200 mg of Gabapentin at night which is similar to Lyrica.. anyway I went up to 30 mg a month after I started the 20 mg and I've been on that for the whole year and it's been life-changing to be honest.. I know I can go up to 40 50 or 60 mg if I need to so that's good to know but I'm trying to stick to the 30 since I'm doing good with it. I take the Cymbalta in the morning around 10:30... And I will tell you it also helped my anxiety and low mood from all the nerve pain

Thanks so much for your reply and I’m so glad that you’re doing well. My prescription for Cymbalta is for 30 mg so I may ask for 20 and go up slowly to 30. I’m more inclined to try that as opposed to the Lyrica because of the reports of weight gain. 😬 Thanks again. Gives me some hope 😊

Neither drug worked for me. All I got were the side effects so had to stop taking them. As usual everyone respond differently to drugs.

I had the same result. I had entrapment and neither of these meds helped rid me of the severe neuralgia.

I did develop scary side effects which I reported to Health Canada.

I’m sorry the meds didn’t help you. I’m so scared to try them but I think I have to.

I am a 69 yr old male - I have had PN for about 8 years now - it took quite a while to get everything under control where I can live a normal life. I take 600 mg of alpha lipoic acid in the AM & PM and 150 MG of Pregabalin in the PM. Cymbalta didn't work for me. You will have to experiment with the drugs to see what does the trick for you. The main thing that helped was regular PT - I still go monthly for a tune up. I was lucky and found a great one close by. Read this book: A Headache in the Pelvis and check out this site: pudendalhope.info/ There is quite a bit of helpful information as well as worldwide contacts that are familiar with the condition - good luck!
