How to avoid lifting when you have small children?

My first baby was big and I had an episiotomy and I wasn’t given any form of internal examination. My recovery was extremely painful. It was only when I was pregnant with my 2nd (4 years later) that I realised something was wrong below. I was then told my pelvic floor had torn in the first delivery and that I had prolapsed as a result of this.

Between my two babies I did loads of HIIT training and weights - and wish I had known about this before then as I could have prevented.

I am really sad that I am only 36 but yet a lot of exercise might be off the table. I have always been really sporty and a strong country girl and I feel like I might lose a big part of me.

I also cannot see a road to recovery, I have two small kids and I can’t just stop holding them and picking them up.

I also keep taking to anyone about this as I am desperate to hear a recovery story or even to talk to someone going through the same. I am really happy to find this forum.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this and that you didn’t know soon enough to try and help yourself. I only discovered a prolapse recently in my late 60s but when my first daughter was only one my back locked and I’ve had back problems ever since. I trained my children to climb into the buggy, climb on a chair and into the high chair (with my help!) and to stand up and let gravity take them out with me holding them so they went it the right direction! They also learned to climb up onto my knee for a cuddle rather than me lifting them up. Now I do the same with my grandchildren. I hope that helps a bit with the practicalities.

Hi I've had a prolapse for 8 yrs I take hrt as its the lack of estrogen which can cause the pelvic floor to weaken I'm sure u know this have u tried a kegal 8 electronic exerciser a little pricey but I swear by them also tale collegan and vit d . This has saved me from having a prolapse op years ago you prob are too young for hrt bit ask about any form of estrogen to help strenghten it it can take a while but the kegal 8 is marvelous if u use it everyday at first then maybe once a week etc...honest they work go on their website they are around 150.00 but worth every penny I promise you...Good luck ..I have a 3 Yr old grandaughter that I wouldn't be able to lift if I hadn't...x

Thank you xx

- I think I will definitely try either the kegal 8 or the Elvie one… or both - worth the money if it means I get an active life back!

Hello sue, I am Danielle and I am 39 I have just had prolapse surgery with hysterectomy (leaving my ovaries in so I don’t get menopause) and repair. I had an awful bulge coming out as mine was a stage 4 uterine prolapse I called them my lady balls! :) I had to be light hearted as it really got me down. I only had one child as I met my Husband late in life and had a thyroid tumor so we decided for my health and us as a family we were blessed to have one! My lady bits all feel so so much better but I am being very good. My daughter is 2 1/2 and she keeps saying when can you pick me up again mummy. I have a little bean bag we carry round so she can climb onto the bed and couch next to me and we make it our little challenge and we help each other! We’ve tried to make it fun! Xx

Thank you for your reply. Wow - your daughter is so lucky to have such a positive and fun mum! An admirable attitude.

What an ordeal, I really hope the surgery works for you.

Thank you! Try not to over read or over think (easier said than done!) I’ve spent time feeling sorry for myself, I’m not perfect no where near, but it got me no where. Now I just try hardest to turn everything into a positive. And always have nice things to look forward too! Bloody men get away with everything! 🤣 hope you are ok!? xx
