It's midnight and my 69 yr old mother has just experienced bleeding and a large liver-like clot was discharged. She has got a prolapse and I was wondering if this was a normal symptom or could ut be something else. The bleeding has stopped and there is nothing sticking out so she went back to bed. Going to doc in morning.

Sudden bleed
Hi Limpopo,
I’m sorry to hear about your mum. I can understand your worry as I’d be the same with mine. The bleeding is definitely not normal. I would definitely err on the side of caution and get seen by your GP. You haven’t said if you are in the UK. If you are in the UK as you already know the medical system has been temporarily paused so to speak. The only exception is for emergencies and cancer referrals. I’m assuming it’s vaginal bleeding rather than rectal bleeding? Either way please please don’t be alarmed if her GP mentions sending her via the two week wait cancer referral pathway. I’ve been seen myself via this pathway and although it’s worrying it’s reassuring that you’re seen quickly. Thankfully for me it’s been benign findings sometimes needing surgery. If your mum is sent via this pathway they will say their is the possibility of cancer or that they don’t believe it’s anything serious to worry about but as she has some red flag symptoms there is the possibility. I’m not quite sure of the US pathway although I’d imagine it’s still via the GP. I hope this helps but please feel free to ask any questions and I will get back to you with some answers
