Suspected Rectocele / enterocele - ladies only Question

Hi there, thankyou for adding me. :0)

Id like to find out about a suspected Rectocele (rectum prolapse I believe) and possible enterocele (sml bowel prolapse). I was severely stressed for 8mths with anxiety and it caused a lot of problems with digestion and severe constipation. I also had a knock to my left side with a motorbike, the mirror dug badly into muscles between my thigh and groin, though didnt feel bad at the time, I have been to see 6 doctors, 2 gp's, a colectorologist, urogynecologist 2 doctors in A&E NHS in the hospital (4 of which I paid to see privately) and they still maintain there are no prolapses. I feel they are all wrong. I was a regular crossfitter before all this and feel my life has went down the pan

I have had a lot of symptoms most of which have calmed down.

The symptoms I have at the moment.

1. Constant feeling there is something sitting at the entrance of the anus. I feel this more when underwear is really fitted and or wearing leggings.

2. Sometimes feel pressure in my perenium when I need to due number 2's.

3. Have loose stools, broken stools and diarrhea for 6 months, previous to this all stools were solid and unbroken, normal consistency. Wake up in the mornings now having to do a number two. This wasn't the norm before. I am starting to be able to do a number two during the day again now but still broken up mosstly and almost like d

4. Felt vibration in my back passage 2 weeks ago and now this feeling mentioned in no1.

5. Feel like my pelvic floor is lower.

I've been using Kegel 8ultra 20 for a few weeks now till I can see a gastorentrologist. I feel it is helping though not sure if it will help suspected rectocele, feel it is helping suspected enterocele (sml bowel prolapse), no longer feel a tampon stuck inside.

6. feel buzzing / vibration in my rectum and sometimes bladder after exercise, sticking to bodyweight exercise for the moment, sometimes weights but less than 10kg.

Previous symptoms, these symptoms have all stopped now.

1. Felt like something spinning, coiling down inside my body then started to get sever pain in my pelvis, left side between thigh and groin.

2. very severe pain in the left side of the pelvis where the muscles are, burning pain for hours at a time coming and going over a few weeks on and off.

3. feeling a dragging sensation around my digestive system for weeks

4. dragging feeling in my lower back.

5. feeling like there was a tampon stuck inside.

6. lying in bed with feeling my gut was going to explode, this was when i had sever constipation for 3-4 days. Never had this problem before...ever. Felt like my pelvic floor was coming down and sitting on a fleshy cushion for weeks.

7. felt like I was sitting on an egg for a time.

8. Rushed to A&E one day as the pain was so bad I though something had ruptured in my pelvis. Sat for three hours, pain disappeared, doc did an xray of my digestive system and said I had very severe constipation. Constipation all cleared up now.

When I write all of this down it all sounds like prolapses to me so why cant the doctor find these?

Will they not recognise prolapses of any kind till they are protruding out of your body?

What would be the next course of action? Getting a defecating proctogram? IS this unsafe in any way?

Apologies for the long winded post, I just don't know whats going on and its making me feel quite down and upset. I have never in my life had symptoms like these. I have no children and I'm 46. Perfectly healthy before all this happened.

If anyone is able to offer advice or anything sounds similar to the above which you have dealt with Id be really grateful to hear from you.

many thanks

That sounds horrible - sorry you don't seem to be getting any help. I can't offer much advice other than to keep pushing for help.

It took me 11 months to get to see a consultant with my vaginal prolapse as basically the GP said she couldn't see anything wrong. After three visits I started being a little more forceful and got to see a nurse who said I needed to see a consultant. She wasn't able to refer me so it was back to the same doctor who did refer me.

The consultant made an instant diagnosis and put me on the list for a hysterectomy. I was given no support but read up about my options and asked to be fitted with a pessary and that made life manageable. Meanwhile a year went by, I started ringing every month for news, and eventually saw a GP again who said this was ridiculous and he'd write to the consultant. Hey presto, I got a date for an op, by which time I'd moved to a new area so thought I'd be better off managing without. 16 months later I'm still managing with diet (no to constipation), physio and a pessary as the new area does ops as a last resort (which is much more sensible). None of these were offered in Gloucestershire where I used to live: moving to Cornwall I met a much more proactive attitude - the difference was amazing.

So no specific advice to help but keep at the buggers - my first experience was that they couldn't care less, and I didn't feel like being brushed aside. Do as much research as you can and don't accept that they won't help.

Good luck - I hope you find someone who will try to help.

Hi Schroedie, thanks ever so much for reply. You've had a lot of trouble yourself. I don't understand why docs think its so unimportant. Its life changing. I am going to go in with a list next time and get a private defecating proctogram done. I think that's the only way they will realise something is wrong. I feel I have a right to demand reimbursement when I do find out considering they all charge between £100 and £250 a time and can't find the problem even with all the internals which have been done. One doc said it was all in my head, its definately not.

Today I used the Kegel 8 ultra 20 on a different setting and high frequency and it seems to be helping more which I'm so glad of. Makes the vaginal muscles / wall strong to force internal organs up again a bit. Will presevere with that and starting on a new programme laurenohayon.com/ does a 13wk programme to strengthen your core and pelvic floor and apparently it really works. Mostly for women who've had children but I thought it would be good to have a better understanding of how the pelvic region works and what to do and what not to do. A bit pricey (£145) but if it does the trick I'll be so happy I can go back to the gym.

Like yourself diet makes a big difference, I eat a lot of kiwis and dried apricots especially, they're great for keeping you regular and plenty of water.

Another place for yourself to checkout is APOPS on facebook, private group for any woman that has had a prolapse, would be good for you to check it out when you've been thinking of a hysterectomy, causes more organs to come down as there isn't the same support to keep everything up, though that may not be the case for every woman, they have a website too. pelvicorganprolapsesupport....

All the best for you too.

Many thanks
