Constant Inner Vaginal Pain since March

I'm 23, married, no kids.

This came out of nowhere in March. Like the title says I have constant (never stops) deep vaginal pain. The only way I can describe it is an intense burning pain - it's 24/7. Feels like a toothache inside. The pain is all along my vaginal wall, often on the left side but moves all around. Agony. This is my only symptom.

I've been to urgent care (no infections ever detected), the ER twice (inconclusive), family doctor (inconclusive), gynecologist (inconclusive), urologist (diagnosed me with pelvic floor dysfunction), urogyno (didn't know enough about PFD), so now I see a pelvic physical therapist. I go once a week and I've had 3 sessions so far, no improvement only flares. I'm also waiting for an appointment with pain management end of September. I don't know what else to say, this has taken away my life and I feel very depressed and suicidal each and every day.

I have not yet been able to find someone with my symptoms yet.

Please if you're out there reply to this.

I pray for some input/feedback.

Please just stick with pt because pfd takes time to get better ...I have flares after pt sometimes but I am much better now 4 months later than I was and if I get a flare now it is better much faster than before...however you also need something like Amitryptiline, gabapentin or cyclobenzaprine which will all help your pain...so the pain doc will give you something to help...please keep the faith and if you need to talk --edited--

Hi! I’m sorry to ear about that, I’m with a problem too, a little similar yours, I have 2 daughters, my new baby was Born on March.

And I can feel and see something comes out from my vagina, I have been at general doctor, gynaecologist, physiotherapist and they told me isn’t a uterus prolapse, and I can understand that isn’t an uterus prolapse, because I can touch and feel that my uterus is on right place.

So I think that the walls of my vagina prolapsed, and I need to do physical exercises, pelvic exercises to get the muscles strong again.

But I feel pain in down belly as a period colic, depends what I do, as leaning, seat for long breastfeeding, or having sex with my husband, we have tried have sex for 3 times since my baby came but is almost impossible.

And this situation letting me down every day, every time, is terrible because touch me in my self esteem.

So I asked my practice doctor to refall me to a scan intravaginal or out doesn’t matter, but I really need to know what happens, why so painful?

So Maybe it’s a good idea for you too...

Ask them to do a scan, and don’t stop to look for an answer, because if you are not happy and confidant you are not feeling fulfilled ...

Do you know or had read about vaginismus, maybe can happen...

I wish all the best for you!

Your symptoms are likely due to muscle issues and therefore nerve pain after the birth. That can cause constant pain. I’ve heard it is normal to have pain with sex for even up to a year after giving birth. There is less natural lubrication after birth for awhile. Prolapse can cause pain too. See a pelvic floor physical therapy specialist. The specialist and even your gynecologist can give an idea of a muscle relaxer would be good or topical estrogen.

Hi Cassie, keep positive, with all those tests you have nothing sinister. I am a male but I have similar problems deep inner burn behind the root of my penis which can radiate along my penis, bladder and through to my back, you probably have a nerve issue somewhere but try to not focus on it if you can.

Your story sounds like mine.. every Dr every response, every treatment. 9 Dr's in all. I had to ride laying down in back seat to each Dr. Finally if all Dr's my GP tested me for Actinomycetes Israelii. The Dr had to order the test and send to lab. Took 800mg Acetaminophen 4x'x per day 4 was. Had to go to an Infectious Disease Dr. Not that AI is infectious but only the could give that high of meds for the length of time. Then went to outpatient to have a pic line put in and Dr taught me how to use a drip bag of the medicine 4 x's a day. We took a video in case we needed a refresher for info. Just my story.. may not be your problem. Usually AI is found in the jaw. Also found in women who used IUD's. The test was $300.. SO WHAT!! The daily non relentless pain made me bed ridden. I had to take Probiotics and eat REAL YOGURT daily to prevent infection. I pray to God this is what is wrong as it is curable. I was on for 12 months. Felt better slowly. Please avoid Pain Management and Opiods if at all possible!! That is a rabbit hole to hell!! I very rarely get on this sight but will make an effort to watch for you. If the first thing the Dr says, or rolls their eyes that you heard about this on the Internet.. show them my text. My Dr says she remembers this bacterial infection on her test but had never seen it in her 25 yr practice. Also why I was not tested before by anyone else. 🙏🙏

Ask for an MRI scan, Tarlov cysts can cause low pains.

It takes a long time to get better. Keep with the pelvic floor physical therapist. It takes SEVERAL appointments with them as well as doing the muscle releasing at home daily yourself. My pelvic PT said that it could take a year or so to feel completely normal. When muscles are messed up, it takes time for them to be released (relaxed). Any nerves around the muscles become inflamed and cause pain in the pelvic floor. The more pain, the more we tense these muscles and the problem continues to get worse. Ask your PT about how to breathe properly to relax those muscles. Also see if there is some medication you can take to help.

Did you fall? Low back injury? Hip/buttock injury? Abdominal injury? All those areas can radiate pain to the pelvic floor.

My pain is due to a fall when 19 years old, as well as breaking my tailbone when I was a child.

Hi Cassie,

Did you manage to get to the bottom of this?

I have also been getting burning pain inside my vagina, its been on going for 2 months now, sometimes it subsides, but is always there lingering in the background, the outer vulva feels sensitive. too, like when I wipe it feels like sand paper.

Intrigued to see if you have other symptoms, sensations?

Hi staceyleigh1998

I'm still the same, but coping better with the medication I am taking. I don't have any sensations on the outside of my vagina, just the inner vaginal walls.
