Hey guys. I recently injured the inner right side of my pelvis. This means I cant lift things or put any weight on my right side. I miss exersizing. I havent figured out how to exersize without feeling sharp pain. On the bright side I can sit and lay down comfortably. Do anyone of you guys have advice on new hobbies or ways of passing the time that dont include standing? Also the limited walking I have done has been on crutches. I have bruises on my hands and armpits. Is there anyone who knows a better alrernative to crutches that doesnt involve putting weight on one side of the body from the belly button down? And tricks for carrying things or living more efficiently in general? Tasks like laundry, taking out the trash and sweeping the floor require 3 times the energy and are painful Any info will help. Im pretty much in need of helpful tips regaurding living with a disability. Hope to hear back. Mahalo

Sorry to hear about your injury. To walk without using armpits (but to be non-weight bearing on one side), and to be able to carry things about, can you hire a forearm walker with seat/basket? Physiotherapists and occupational therapists near you (in a rehabilitation setting) should be able to direct you. Or, you can google forearm walker and find a supplier who can rent this to you while you recover. For exercise, being in a warm pool may be good too. I'm a physiotherapist overseas - and have prescribed this type of equipment before, and done exercises with people in a hydrotherapy pool. And then there is the wheelchair option - you can move about and carry things on your lap …. For cleaning the house (sweeping), I'd be recruiting friends/family/cleaners rather than cleaning on one leg. Look after yourself!
Hi I suggest you get a walker. I know they are mostly for old ladies but I used one for 4 months when I couldn't walk. They also have a section underneath where you can put some shopping and they aren't heavy. I also bought a Kindle from Amazon, they are very light to hold and there's a great selection of books to buy for just a few dollars. All the best.
