I can't give you much info/ or facts. I do know for definite (as mine were not caused by an STI) that my tubes and possible PID were damaged by Endometriosis. I had to have my tube removed. How long had I had this? I don't know. I just thought my periods were getting increasingly more painful as I got older and in some months it was disabling. It wasn't until I got checked out at a fertility clinic and had a lap, I was diagnosed with stage 4 Endo. Would like to know when or how it started though. Best wishes x

PID and endometriosis are different conditions, although both can have devastating effects in fertility. The only way to know the causes of PID is to have vaginal swabs done to check for sti's and others bacteria. I'm no expert, but I think PID is treated with antibiotics for an extended period of time. I would think that when the infection is fully cleared up that tests can be done to assess the condition of the tubes. Twenty years ago I had a dye test done by X-ray to see if my tubes were blocked (I had endometriosis), but I'm not sure if technology has moved on since then! I think it is a waiting game. Also not sure if they will do the tests unless you fail to fall pregnant naturally. (I was about to start IVF when I was tested). Your best bet is to go and speak to your gynaecologist, GP or local GUM clinic to get advice. As we all know, worrying about it makes all the symptoms worse, so a consultation to put your mind at rest is worthwhile. I hope this helps. Take care.
