going to be starting pt and wondering if anyone has gotten pain relief from internal massage or myofascial release and has anyone used a biofeedback device. Any info appreciated.

I've had internal and external myofascial release which got rid of some trigger points and was the best thing of anything I've tried so far. I have a diagnosis of pudendal neuralgia and I get awful pain in my piriformis which makes the internal pain worse and my physio has mentioned that my obturater internus is spasmed which is in contact with the alcocks canal which, as I'm sure you'll know has the pudendal and sciatic nerve running through it. It's almost a case of which came first - the chicken or the egg?!

So I have total sympathy for you and I think you're doing absolutely the best thing with regards the physio as long as they are experienced with your condition and don't try to get you doing kegels!

The best thing you can do is diaphragmatic breathing, pelvic floor relaxation, self massage, relaxation, pacing and limiting stress as much as poss.

So good luck with the physio, I really hope it helps,

Best wishes,

Sweetpea x

Thanks I agree with the chicken and egg thing. I do practice stress reduction and relaxation techniques. My first app. Is today. I spoke with the pt and she specializes in pelvic floor rehab and was knowledgeable about my condition. I actually know where my trigger points are! Certain balls of tight painful muscle by anus and left hip and hamstring. I will research the breathing tech. You mentioned as well. Thanks. Lisa

I've recently started seeing a new physio who specialises in myofascial release to help with my vulvodynia and muscle spasms in my back, buttocks & legs. It's early days but so far it is helping. She found that my pelvis and coccyx were misaligned and has done corrections for those aswell as massaging my stomach, pelvis and leg muscles to release tension and knots. Suddenly walking and sitting has become a whole lot easier and my back/buttock and leg pain has disappeared. I'm also finding that the muscles are starting to automatically release themselves which is a good feeling. She hasn't done any internal work yet - she wants to correct my alignment first and get all the knots of the other muscles first because it may be that I won't need the internal - fingers crossed. I also do pelvic floor relaxation exercises at home, deep breathing etc to release the muscles and this helps. I'd say it's definitely worth a try.

Well I do stretch alot . I feel like the muscles in my pelvis and hip and leg are shrinking and I'm in pain almost all the time. I had my first pt app. And she said she swears she's gonna help alleviate my pain. It even hurts when I pass gas my muscles are so tight. Have your scan and take your next step after the results. There are so many directions to go in with pelvic pain. It could be a thousand different problems. Good luck and let me know what happens after the scan. BTW I take a muscle relaxer called flexaril at night. It helps a bit.

Hi thankyou for replying, i had my scan over 3 weeks ago it was so painfull, lying there for 20min i couldnt get of the bed of course the guy whom was in the scaning room had loads of sympathy,NOT he just wanted me of that bed as quick as possible to get the next slab of meat put on there, when i eventually did get of i was crying my eyes out and could barely walk to the car, luckly my husband was there to help me. If male or female nurses can't be sympathetic to patients they need to get a new job. there ive had my rant about the nurse who was with me. The best bit of all is yet to come i had a letter of the doctor after chasing them up myself to see when i could get my results middle of march i was in shock i had to ask her twice thinking i heard wrong what the hell im in bloody agony, my life is pants i havent actually got a life i take so much medication Im fumming as u can imagine, ive gone back to the doctors my local gp to get them to write a letter to speed the appointment up a bit she told me not to hold my breath as it might not make any diffrence WONDERFUL im sick of it all just keep throwing painkillers at me which must be costing a fortune.

I know how you feel being passed around and ignored and shoved pill after pill. I really didn't have any significant improvement until I stopped feeling and playing the part of victim and started taking control of my situation and being really proactive. Research, be smarter than them, be calm, be demanding, tell yourself that your fate is your decision. We can live in pain and we will but you can have quality in your life regardless I promise you that. Read books about healing chronic pain. They're not magic but they have tons of useful self help tips. And remember our bodies produce new cells everyday and the old sick ones die off! Even nerves heal!
