This is an interesting one! Had a chat to my GP about this before we went to New Zealand for 6 weeks as I had been quoted over £1000!! (I did have Breast Cancer before PBC). He said to take out a basic holiday cancellation policy as it would be very hard to get a company to pay out with PBC. There are so many and varied symptoms and they will connect any condition you develop to it as a pre existing condition and NOT pay out! As you can see from the above figure it would be cheaper for me to book a flight home or get a changeable ticket.....we had a wonderful holiday, and many since without a problem.

Have a great time X

On a holiday in America I was quoted amounts for insurace from £400 to £900 premiums. I got the best deal from the Post Office. All they asked was my condition stable. My consultant confirmed it eas and I did not bhave to pay any premium, just the standard insurance price for my holiday.

Hello.

Check out Liver North website. Click on their Publications at the left hand side and then look at their latest newsletter. They put up-to-date Insurance Companies at the end of their newsletter that at the time are current. I can't state as to any insurers as not yet been out of the UK.

I know to change the subject slightly but still on insurance, my current insurer Friends Provident will not insure me later this yr when my policy jointly with my son runs out due to me now having PBC. I was going to swap policies in 2010 to a joint one with my new husband but halted due to on-going bloods and then hosp appt and after diagnose informed my insurer who then got back to me and said it was 'highly unlikely' they would re-insure me when policy expires.

I am going to have to wait until I am 50 next yr., take out an over 50's insurance policy and then will have 2yrs of paying in before I am actually covered with them.

I did get a quote from a list that I got emailed from British Liver Trust during 2011 but they were wanting the ridiculous sum of £70 per mth in premiums for same cover that my husband is paying (£10 per mth) currently.

As bizarre as I find PBC, I also find a lot of things bizarre and one is that for under £30 per mth I can cover my whole house contents and the building itself and in event of anything untoward, I would prob get far far more back in a claim than I would for life cover!

I travel regularly overseas with insurance and as my PBC is stable i ignore it.i dont bother to try and get it co vered.i do get a letter from my specialist to have on file in Case i am ill unrelated to pbc and they try to relate it if you know what i mean.

I have been trying to get travel insurance but hit a brick wall everytime, one insurer told me as PBC was classed as a terminal illness that I they would not cover me!!

So in the end I have have taken out travel insurance but with no medical coverage! I do have other medical problems, Sjorgans Syndrome, under active thyroid and Prinz Metal Angina. In europe you have E111 any way.

As Bethan D said you can always buy a ticket home!

I am in the States at the moment. Google, World First for phone number and phone them to discuss your personal situation. I told them that I have PBC type 2 diabetes and other age related problems plus all the different types of medication that I am on. Annual cover is £320 for thirty days at a time. I'm 67 and this has been the cheapest deal by far.

I have been quoted £91.87 for 2 week Europe holiday with Freedom Insurance - information@freedominsure.co.uk This is still quite expensive but my thinking is if I am ill and need to be repatriated, for any reason, the insurers will find a way of linking to PBC so I never travel without insurance.
