Hi I wonder if anyone has any advice on reflux I seem to have this after meals
I had reflux problems for a while and was eventually put on ranitidine to stop it, pre transplant I was taken off this and was given omeprazole which also controls acid production. I have found that many pbc sufferers have stomach problems and take antacids.
I never seemed to have any problems with indigestion, constipation or diarrhoea prior to diagnose (Dec 2010). I actually found that in the first few mths of taking urso I suffered rather badly with heartburn later in the day.
I know I've had to step up my fibre intake slightly more since taking urso because I did find that within a few days of first starting it I did start with constipation but that doesn't seem to be much of a problem nowadays.
I know I did get what I will say are slightly different urso in Sept when I collected from the pharmacy. I never noticed the brand name had vanished off the packaging and tablet foils but started experiencing very similar to how I was at the start of urso in 2010 (that's how I checked the packaging) and it is only recently now that I am on the start of the 3rd pack of urso they have all subsided again.
I think one of the best ways to try to combat things like this is to eat little and often. I find it most difficult of an evening with my family when we have the last meal of the day. I never manage to finish what I've put on my plate and it is never overly-much but I do find I feel fuller with the evening meal than I do with food intake during the day. Plus of course it has to be noted that towards the end of the day after eating and drinking from the start of the morning, our system is now in full process mode (and unfortunately for me evening is when I start to itch! Perfectly fine throughout the day).
I am on Omeprazole now for it.
I also take Omeprazole
Yes, antacids, some of them just when You wake. peridot is experienced: little, often, and don't lay down just after 2hrs passed from the last meal. Yes, in evening it's hard, and somehow the social kind of meals is frustrating. But surely we have to learn, while others are eating (and often resticted for us things) we just keep on conversation and smile nicely.
Also chamomile or camomile is suggested to be drunk in a special way: half hr before meals drink slowly 3 times per day 200gr of light the and lay on right side, back and left side 5-5 minutes. It's called roll cure. If You can do it only ones, or three times without laying, it will help, too.
I like camomile, in fact been having the odd cup of that for quite some years. I originally heard about it when my children were toddlers. Boots used to sell one by Milupa I think and it came in a drum. They also did fennel which is supposed to be good. We all got to like drinking this. My daughter still likes herbal teas today and she is in her mid-20's now.
I tend to like one by M&S, it's called Detox and has dandelion, nettle and milk thistle in to name just a few of the ingredients.
I have read that camomile is supposed to be anti-inflammatory plus relaxing. Maybe that is why there is a mention on here with regards to it.
I've also heard that calcium tablets you can buy over-the-counter being 'chalky' can combat indigestion/heartburn but can't say I've actually tried that but it figures as a lot of indigestion tablets are made with calcium carbonate think it is.
I have some peppermint capsules in my cupboard that occasionally we use. I have to say when I had a few of the effects recently due to what I know is prob slightly diff make-up (bulking agents) in the urso I reached for one of these and it does combat that heartburn effect.
I also think on another point too, fat can actually cause heartburn/indigestion so perhaps that is worth a try, limiting the fat intake slightly and seeing what happens.
Omeprazole works for me too. X
Me to omeprazole does the job most of the time x
Me to I take omeprazole for reflux, works pretty well and is a godsend!
I also take omeprazole. GP advised I take it around 5-6pm, this works well for me and I no longer wake up during the night with severe heartburn..
I take Nexium once a day, if symptoms are bad, two if I have to. Also I have to use Carafate at times for a few wks., if symptoms are worse. I have taken the med antivert recently and it felt like it was burning through my stomach. So at this time, I'm using both. Soda crackers help for nausea. Also there was a period where sweet pickle juice would turn down nausea, and heartburn for me. Of course, I've almost stopped eating any type of fat, or chocolate or any of the good stuff! My stomach can't bare the Ursodiol this week.
