I’m feeling a bit confused! My dr wants to discuss my lipid levels, but my cholesterol is only 4.7 and within range. I know that there can be problems with PBC and lipids, but is this not overkill? Thanks!

Lipid levels

I can totally understand that.. the normal cholesterol level being less than 5.7. I would certainly encourage you to have a 'sit down' conversation about what his concerns are with your numbers. Let us know. PBC can increase your cholesterol but it's the'good' kind.
Good Morning,
Is your LDL cholesterol in range ?
I have high LDL and I know this isn’t good and I have struggled to get it down with both diet and medication and my overall cholesterol is 5, just in range.
High LDL (bad cholesterol)can be a contributing factor and add to plaque build up in the arteries,I have this in my cartoid and coronary arteries,I have now been referred to the Lipid clinic at local hospital, to see what they advice.
I wouldn’t have known about the plaque build up without having scans, but my LDL could be linked.
I was told inflammation in the body can also affect cholesterol levels.
Maybe the dr just wants to go over it with you, and keep an eye on your levels because as you say they are in range .
Good luck.
My triglycerides are fine, but I don’t know about the Hdl/ldl results, I’ll make sure to ask!
Maybe that’s what they want to check, you have to have a fasting blood test for the full lipid panel which includes the LDL cholesterol.
My triglycerides are fine too at 0.6 mmol/L on last blood test. But LDL is high.
Again all the best.
Maybe it’s just a precautionary conversation given PBC. Ask lots of questions. Hope the appointment goes well. Best wishes.
Please keep us posted…I have elevated cholesterol and I’d like to know what he’s going to say. Your number looks good to me!
