After suffering with severe pain in upper abdomen and back for sometime. Scans have revealed my gallbladder doesn't contract properly and problems with Sphincter of Oddi. So consultant has advised for them to be removed. He said their's a 1 in 20 chance of suffering with pancreatitis after. Not sure what to do !!! Has anyone else had this problem.Thank you all 😊

when they were trying to determine what was causing my out of normal labs, They thought it could be my ball bladder. They recommended I have it removed. I did and when they looked at it after removal, they said, “guess that wasn't the problem”. Luckily, I have had no issues living without my gallbladder. It seems like so many people have theirs removed for various reasons and live a normal life. I was later diagnosed with PBC and have lived with it for 30 years.

From what I've read the risk of pancreatic from having your gallbladder removed is about 0.1% - very small. If you are having such pain, then having it removed seems to be the right thing for you. It's your decision. This is a very common surgery now often being done laproscopically. Will you have it done laparoscopically ? Even an article from Mayo Clinic said it is a very common and safe surgery, carrying very little risk. We all know that any type of surgery always carries some risk - no matter how small. Do what's best for you.

Myself and one of my friends developed Bile salt Dioreah after gaul bladder removal. After removal some have more of a problem dealing with fat so have to have a low fat diet. Although BSD is manageable with good diet it occasionally becomes necessary to use a toilet very quickly.

It doesn't affect everyone like this but can, so it's pain versus problems. I chose to get rid of the pain.

It's controllable with diet, low fat. X

I do eat a low fat diet, always exercise and have maintained my body weight of 52 kg most of my adult life. But I can experience pain just from walking and not always through food.

Not what you're looking for?
