Pain is frequently felt as a dull to severe sensation in the right upper quadrant of your abdomen. It can often be an indication of gallstones, especially after a fatty meal. PBC patients can suffer from these due to the fact that with PBC the flow of bile is already impeded to some degree. However, the use of Urso in treating PBC ( Urso was originally used to treat gallstones) can help keep gallstones from forming at all or help dissolve them if they are there.
A dull ache or pain in this area is sometimes felt as a fullness or pain when that area is pushed on. The liver itself can not feel pain. However, the capsule around the liver can. It is the inflammation in this capsule that causes the pain. It is theorized that in the beginning of the diagnosis that the bile is in some way slowed down due to the process of PBC. This causes inflammation - which leads the live capsule to become painful to any degree.
Always keep your physician aware of any abdominal pain. It isn't always just the PBC....
