In case some of you are wondering about the updated covid vaccine which is now available. I got the pfizer shot last weekend. My arm hurt and I was very tired the next day. Other than that it was fine. The last covid shot I did was 2022. Skipped it last year.
I asked my hepatologist when to get the shot and he said anytime and said flu shot by end of October. My PCP said get the shots before it gets too cold.

My hepatologist told me to get my Covid and flu shot too. I tried to make an appt yesterday at my local pharmacy and they were out the vaccines. Will call back in a few days. Being immunocompromised I feel I need to stay up to date on my vaccines. I know others have different opinions. We all have to make our own informed decisions. Glad you didn't have any ill effects from the vaccines.
Yeah when I booked an appointment on line, website said to book as soon as possible as the supplies can be limited. My pcp’s office only had flu vaccines & not covid ones. They have the other vaccines though.
Everyone should be up to date with their vaccines as recommended by their doctors.
Hope they have the vaccines soon so you can get the shot. Takes about 2 weeks to build immunity.
I’ve just spoken to my pharmacists who said I should be getting free vaccines for flu and covid and it’s upto me to decide which I want. I’ve had the flu one today and will see how I feel before getting the covid vaccine. It just shows that PCB is unfamiliar to some health care providers whilst others are prepared to check it out to give us the best advice available to them. Its always worth asking specific questions if in doubt… we’re all learning.
Glad that these vaccines are free to anyone. I have been told by a pharmacist that the company we get them from - Moderna or Pfizer. - doesn't matter. I have had both with no problems. I do intend to get the flu and next Covid booster. As with anything concerning our health, we all need to do our homework.
I got my Moderna booster last week. I had body aches and fatigue the day after the shot, but was back to normal the next day. My arm was sore for 2-3 days--to be expected. I'm glad for the extra protection. The pharmacies in my area seem to have a solid supply of everything.
I had the Moderna jab and flu jab on Monday, like periwinkle I had fatigue and quite severe aches for 2 days and arm pain for 3 days , only in the covid arm. All okay now.
The pharmacy said he had only been supplied with the Moderna and even though I had booked an appointment the pharmacy was very crowded and a little uncomfortable really ,it appears some people where advised to just turn up, which increased the volume of people and the wait time.
this is interesting as I only booked a flu jab at my chemist as I’m sure Prof Jones said Urso seems to offer some protection against severe covid reaction on one of the Q&A sessions🤔 and he wasn’t convinced about continued vaccination against covid. Also my GP said even though PBC is an autoimmune condition we don’t qualify for vaccines on NHS. I thought we might be offered Covid, Flu and RSA if we look after babies and small children, as I do. Any thoughts??
Honestley if I was you I would get both because children are germs on two legs 🤣🤣🤣. I did caught Covid in 2023 even with the Covid shot and got quite ill so I dont imagine what it would have been without ! Wish you the best.
I am in the US and it seems there are more pharmacies with Moderna shots vs Pfizer. Because I had the Pfizer ones to begin with, didnt want to mix up the brands so specifically booked an appointment for Pfizer. 2 of my friends got covid this summer (California & Florida) and it really was worse than a cold. My hepatologist also got covid in July. Think getting the shot as a precaution is prudent.
Want to know if anyone in this great community suffered from an immediate reaction to the Covid vaccine? Over the past years I have had Pfizer vaccines and boosters(6) with absolutely no ill effects. Went to my primary physician's office for the new Covid vaccine this past Monday and was told they only had Moderna and there was no difference between Pfizer and Moderna. Immediately after receiving it I started having heart palpitations, chills, shakes and turned bright red on face, neck and upper chest. The doctor checked me out and my breathing was normal, so ruled out anaphylaxis and made me lie down for 20 minutes. My heart subsided and so did redness after 10-15 minutes. Did I have an strong immune response? I recently titrated to 100mcg of Besremi and take small dose of Jakafi as well. They and MPN specialist did not feel it was related to medications, but possibly an allergic reaction??? Anyone have an idea? Thanks
When the covid vaccines were being developed and not yet available, I read a lot on the various ones eventually offer. While vaccines were hard to come by at that time, I consciously look for sites that offer Pfizer and continue doing so for the subsequent shots. I vaguely remember that reactions to Moderna was much more intense than Pfizer. From a vaccine protection stance, doctors tell you they are the same but not the reactions from it.
When my friend had her first covid shot, her blood pressure shot up and had heart palpitations. They took her to the hospital for overnight observation. Not sure which vaccine she took.
Here is a snippet from a research site on the vaccines:
Conversely, moderate side effects (Grade 2 or higher) occurred in 33% of participants who received the Pfizer vaccine, whereas almost 21% of participants who received the Moderna vaccine experienced a related adverse event.[4,5] In both studies, when side effects occurred, they were more common following the second dose as compared to the first dose.
i am not getting any more shots. Everytime i get the flu shot. I still get the flu.
I am one that doesn’t trust the Covid vaccine. I did get the initial 2 Pfizer shots when it started because my job was going to make me do weekly testing so i caved.
The first time I caught Covid was in 2023. My daughter who received the same first two shots never caught Covid to date.
My daughter who is a nurse of course received the vaccine because they have no choice.
I guess it’s personal preference. Nice to know we all have options.
I always get my flu shot. It doesn’t give you the flu but some have side effects. I will NEVER take another covid shot. My reaction to the second shot in 2022 caused a terribly painful reaction in my hip. My GP sent me to an orthopedic surgeon to check my hip and spine. Xrays showed nothing. He said people with autoimmune diseases were not included in the trials. He felt it triggered something. Advised me to not take it again.
I'm with you on this. My personal belief about vaccines is if it prevents something that's more an annoyance than a real danger, I don't want a vaccine that could have side effects for it. Note the comment mentioning Dr. Jones' perspective above.
