I have recently developed quite an acute bout of sciatica-type pain as well as back issues. Going to go to doctor, try to get into PT etc. But, at 65, never had this before. I don't want to connect every negative thing that happens to me with pbc, as it could just be age, but also don't want to miss connections that might be there. My most recent bone scan showed some osteopenia, not osteoporosis. Anybody else had this occur? Any input?

Sciatica
Wear and tear is responsible for my osteoarthritis, its widespread and the bottom of my spine is affected. It led to severe pain from sciatica on the left side of my body. Was offered investigative surgery with no guarantees they could do anything so I declined.
Over the years its improved but for some time it left me unable to walk at times. I don't have osteopenia so can't indetify with that. Good luck with your doctor hope you find some relief .
I have been diagnosed with osteoporosis. My earlier DEXA scan back in 2017 showed osteopenia which I did not pick up on and received no medical alert. It may be worth your while to look at exercises and diet to reverse osteopenia before it progresses to osteoporosis. I now take a medication called Alendronic Acid for the osteoporosis which is not a pleaseant medication. Exercises may help sciatic pain, for me I went to a chiropractor who took x-rays before starting treatment but that was whilst I was still working some 20 plus years ago.
I understand that there is a commonality between PBC and osteoporosis/osteopenia but more because of the fact that more women of a certain age may have both.
