PBC - high Amylase level

Just had my latest blood results. Amylase tested for 1st time so I don’t have anything to compare it with 201 (normal range 0 - 100)

Anyone have any comments?

Don’t like the idea of pancreatitis!

Have you booked an appointment to discuss this with your GP? A doctor who knows your medical history will look at the blood results as a whole and will be best placed to suggest the best treatments available to you. Do come back and let us know how you get on, I hope that if it is pancreatitis that it has been caught early. best wishes

Hi, I had pancreatitis twice, it wasn’t great! I became anxious as my amylase was always raised but I didnt feel pain like I had with full blown pancreatitis, it was more just twinges I asked the consultant if it would end up another attack and he explained that they don’t class it as pancreatitis until the level is in the 1000s and when it’s ‘just’ over in the hundreds it’s inflammation. Now whether that’s true 🤷‍♀️ I’ve not had it for a few years now since taking hydroxychloroquine and urso and m careful with what I eat. So far it’s all back within range. Speak to the GP/consultant and they will hopefully work out why it’s raised along with your other blood results.

Hi Chris - thx for your reply. In hindsite I was experiencing indigestion around the time my bloods were taken and changed from having orange juice to carrot juice at breakfast as slightly less acidic. Maybe that was a wee bit of inflammation. I’ll try to get a GP appointment - but won’t hold my breath!

hi Deb, you would think the GP/consultant would contact you if there was a concern. Hopefully it will settle by itself. Chris

Yes in an ideal world that would be my expectation - however in our wee corner of SW Scotland NHS service is currently short of ideal
