Hi Everyone
This is my first post. I am a bit nervous as I've never blogged before.
I am starting to have problems with my swallow and wondered if it's a symptom of PBC and if anyone else has this problem.
Thank you
Wendy
Hi Everyone

If it’s a new symptom, discuss it with your doctor there are many reasons for difficulty swallowing which should be investigated.
Its not noted as a symptom of PBC. However, I was told my difficulty swallowing was from a lack of saliva due to Sjögren’s syndrome, that you can have with PBC. (It turns out it’s not that and it’s something else entirely) so do get checked out
Thank you for that. I will speak to my specialist about it on my next visit
I have just had trouble when swallowing it feels like I have a dry spot in my throat.
I have limited schleroderma and my rheumatologist always asks if my swallowing is ok. So that is another possibility. Hope you get answers soon. 😊
Oh I have difficulty swallowing thought t was my sojgrens don't have a rheumatoidologist perhaps I need one
Hi I was starting to wonder if it's Sjorgrens. I have dry eyes also. Definitely going to mention it at my next appointment
Wow! That’s a long time. I’m surprised your drs didn’t suggest a rheumatologist to test for all other autoimmune diseases. Ya know, PBC likes to have sidekicks 🤣.
I have difficulty swallowing but mine started years before PBC diagnosis. Your gastroenterologist will usually want to do an endoscopy to see why. I had another one recently as they wanted to make sure I wasn’t getting tag on AI disease like scleroderma. I was fine, it’s just my situation. But do speak with your gastro. Sjogren’s can cause dryness and it’s a big pal of PBC
I’m sorry that you are having all this go on. 🙁 I do have a swallowing problem. I drink or eat soft foods for most of my calories these days and I get along fine. I still eat healthy. I drink my protein shakes and eat grits every day for lunch. Fruit is okay. Roast vegetables until they are soft. I use a calorie counting app to monitor my calories, protein, etc. too make sure I’m not over doing it, or neglecting my protein.
My hepatologist did suggest sending me for a swallowing study, but I am tired of being poked and prodded so I’m good for now.
I also have the dry mouth and eyes which I take Salagen for 3 times a day, use systane eye drops and daily disposable contacts as a “moisture bandage” for my eyes .
