Hi, it sounds like the usual pain you can get with PBC. I get a feeling that varies between an achy pain and a stitch in the liver area and was getting that for a while before I was diagnosed. It hurts if it has pressure on it too which I found happened in a yoga class, as if it’s bruised. I think it’s just that the liver area is a bit inflamed and sensitive, but you can always check with your specialist. Mine advised it is just part of the condition. From what I’ve read the pain and fatigue that can happen in PBC do not necessarily relate to the severity or stage of the condition. Some people in advanced stages don’t have pain, itching or fatigue. Others in the early stages can have one or more of those things. It is a slowly progressing disease with more treatment options continuing to emerge. The PBC Foundation are a good source of info. Take care and all the best!

Hi, so sorry for your pain. What does AIH stand for.

P.S. I meant to say the AIH might be the source of the pain too. Others here with AIH might be able to advise on what they experience with that

I get pain in the liver area especially after eating red meat (which I rarely do these days) or fatty foods. Apparently the liver swells a bit and presses on the capsule around the liver but it is not an indication that there is any worsening of PBC. I don't know about the impact of AIH relative to liver pain. A warm hot water bottle over the area can be soothing and I do not sleep on that side when the area is tender.
