Does anyone know if Bezafibrate can cause problems with your kidneys? Also if you can just stop it or if you need to gradually come off?

Good question @Wocket. Can I suggest that you send it to linda@pbcfoundation.org.uk this morning. Best to give as much information as you can.

Professor Jones is the guest speaker on their Thursday Q&A. Link to them can be found on their web site for the click meeting or join Facebook Live at 2 p.m. this afternoon.

best wishes

Thanks butterflyEi have now done so. My GP seems to think I’m old so it doesn’t matter and I’m only 59 😭

this makes me very sad, only one GP at my surgery over the last 3-4 years has shown any interest and she was newly qualified. I don't often trouble my surgery when I do I get the same feeling but I have done for quite some time. Anyway I hope you can listen in and hear your answer but if not the sessions are recorded and are available later on Facebook and the PBC Foundation YouTube channel. I am hoping to listen in today so we will both learn something I am sure. best wishes

Hi, Ive been on Bezefibrate for15 months, game changer for me as itch was unbearable and I was ready to end it all. Yes, this drug can impact your kidneys you need blood tests to monitor. I had bloods after 2 weeks, 4 weeks then monthly for three months. I think this may have been because when I took Ramipril this sent my kidney levels sky high

They were not monitoring me and I now have stage 3 Kidney disease. I have now been taken off it. I was given it because I am a partial responder to Urso and it got my numbers into the normal bracket.

My numbers are back in normal, I was only prescribed this due to the terrible itching I had. Hope you find something that works for you

Really glad you have got your itching under control luckily I don’t get itching very often but when I do it drives me mad.
