I take 25mg of sertraline with the option to increase to 50mg daily as part of a cocktail of medications to control my itch. I have found that 25mg also dampens down my emotions. I do not have any after effects in the morning.

Hi there, Thankyou for your reply, was wondering due they help with sleep, having terrible trouble sleeping of late.

I cannot say for truth that Sertraline helps with my sleep pattern which can be a bit up and down. What I have found useful is tuning in to YouTube using my mobile and earphones and searching for a sleep guidance meditation recording. I like the voice of Jason Stephenson particularly. There is Sleep voiced by Paul McKenna which is very effective but there are many such recordings so you could if you wanted choose the one that suits you best. There was a virtual conversation with Collette on the PBC Foundation facebook live page and someone recommended a Scottish chap, I think his name is Andrew Johnson. You may like to try it and do let us know how you find it.

Hya Kimphoebe, I take 25mg sertraline with the option to increase to 50mg to control the itching. It is the only medication that has worked. I haven't noticed any adverse effects from taking sertraline. I am so thankful that it has controlled the severe itching. I'm not sure if it has directly helped with sleep but now that the itch is under control I can sleep. I hope this helps.

Blessings, Anni

Hello....WOW! I just recovered from a 6month intense itch cycle. I was started on 25 mg Sertraline, then 50 mg, 75 mg seems to do the trick for me. I find it interesting that some folks can increase during a bad phase. Sertraline takes awhile to take effect. I take it about an hour before bed time. Makes me drowsy. I have had none of the other listed side effects Also, look at your foods.....I found out that tomatoes mimic the itch in me....bummer

Hope this helps a little...Be well

Hi there Thanks for your reply that’s interesting about tomatoes because I eat a lot of them.

I know....It can also happen with beans and some dairy. Hard to factor out. I must say that since I've reached week six on the 75 mg Sertraline, I have very rare days of itching(depends on food that day!), but I'm so very much calmer and happy! Go figure, right!I hope you find relief cause it sucks. I was recently re-diagnosed and do not have PBC, but liver injury that mimics all the symptoms. Be well

I was on sertraline 25mg for cholinergic urticaria and it seemed to control the itching well. I stopped eventually and decided to do sweat therapy but might try 25mg again to control during winter months when the itching is worse.
