Also, I’m of no help with URSO, as I don’t take it. I’m sure those who do take it will be able to answer your questions about it.

Hi!When I first started on urso I had a dry mouth, and noticed a bit of hair loss. I’ve been on it for 3 years now and thats all stopped. The only thing I do notice now is my tummy gurgling if I have the tablets without food it too long after my dinner.

If you start on urso and notice side effects that you can’t possibly tolerate it is possible to start at a lower dose and work up from there.

Urso is a life saver to many PBC patients and it is worth sticking with it unless of course you are intolerant x

I take 1250g of urso every day. I had nausea for the first two weeks of taking them . The other side effect you may get. Like the ones you have listed. I have them even before taking urso. All medication comes with side effects dosnt mean you will get them. The benefits outweigh the side effects. x

Urso is generally well tolerated, it is said that any weight gain is usually due to you becoming better at absorbing your nutrients, so it’s not an endless weight gain. Urso is a bile acid and you have naturally occurring bile so it’s really well tolerated.

I’ve not had any effects except indigestion in the early days and been on it 11 years now. I took mine in three doses to start with as recommended in the patient leaflet. I still take two doses although you can take it all at once but, I have trouble swallowing them and could never do that.

If you do get side effects there normally short lived and rosemadder9 has given good advice about starting slow and working up to the full dose.

And remember: you could take urso today and get a pain in your big toe, now is that a side effects or a coincidence, my point being try not to look for side effects. More often that not there isn’t any. 😊

Hi, welcome to the group. I take urso and have similar side effects but also have sjorgens's which is a sick syndrome that people with PBC often have, and some of the symptoms you have can be related to that too. Just remember if you can tolerate Urso after a few months things do settle and this medication slows the progression of PBC with good results and, in my option, is a fantastic drug. good luck :)

I have taken Ursodiol for the two and a half years with no known side effects. Recently I decided to lose a little weight. I weighed 153 (I am small) and had a 140 target; three months or so later, I am at 138. I am an 82 year old male, physically active (in good weather I bike 15 miles six days weekly), and use a local gym. In my experience, Ursodiol does not cause weight gain, and I am not aware of any side effects, though that doesn’t mean that I don’t have any.’Good luck.

Hi and welcome. I am not aware of any side effects. For me, the main thing is to be sure to take it with food to avoid indigestion. Good luck!
