Itching!

I was diagnosed with PBC about 7 years ago & my levels have been stable for 2 years now. I take urso. I have been experiencing itching but wasn’t sure if it was caused by PBC or our climate.

The itching comes & goes and can be in many different body areas at a time. Is this what most have experienced with itching?

Hi astalpbili10 I was diagnosedd 2006, started itching 2014. The areas which are often impacted by the so called itch of PBC are the soles of the feet and hands but many of us across the various PBC forum report itching on the back arms and legs, sometimes also in our groin area. For me it is my arms, shoulders and along the jaw line. For me also it is constantly with me and although I am medicated with a cocktail of recommended medication for the itch it still breaks through occasionally.

The itch seems to come from deep within, it is not a surface itch like say a mosquitto bite. It is worth checking your washing liquids, either new or possibly a change in the mixture by the manufacturer. Sometimes the cosmetics we use can have impuritities in them which cause an itch. If you can rule out any other cause then it is probably the PBC itch.

best wishes

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I have been doing the process of elimination to determine if the itch is being caused by something other than PBC.

I even threw out a couple of tops because I thought maybe the material in them was causing the itch because what I have read indicates the itch is usually on your hands & feet. Mine seems to show up on my back, forearms, & recently my face. It lasts a couple of days then disappears for a few weeks.

Did your itch start out occurring randomly and then become an everyday occurrence?

I think I will start tracking the occurrences. I must say, PBC certainly has many layers !

My memory of it starting is a bit vague but I itched on the arms it became a deep twisting of the muscles like a sword fight going on in my upper arms. On my face it is like I constantly have a web across the jaw. My shoulder blades are more random sometimes they need scratching and sometimes not and that is even with the medication.

Yes, indeed PBC does have many layers.

best wishes
