Are PBC symptoms exacerbated before and during your period.

Good morning from Sunny Santiago. Nausea and itching are unbearable these days. Does this happen due to the hormones? I have mentioned it to my doctor, Hepatologist. But it does not seem to be important, or have anything to do with my period. Thank you group for existing.

I asked the same question as my itching was worse when I was on my period but the docs didn’t seem concerned! All I can put it down to is your body over heats when on a period so maybe this is why the itching is worse ? But I do think the hormones play a part in it ! X

I will definitely look into the body temp., sounds very probable. Thanks.

There is no data to say hormones play a part in symptoms. (Remember 10% of people with PBC are men).

The temp variation would be well worth a look.

I would respectfully disagree and say that I wouldn’t rule it out. I was pregnant and unfortunately had a miscarriage at about eight weeks. Because of heightened hormones or so I was told, my itching was unbearable and I was bedridden for a month. I was told that it would probably be that way throughout the entire pregnancy. It may not be that way for everybody, are there could be another explanation that occurs during pregnancy that I am not aware of. But there’s also a possibility it could be due to hormones

Yes I agree, my consultants told me it was quite common for it to be worse around the period time. And as so many women say so, i don’t think it should be discounted as fable because 10% men diagnosed with pbc don’t menstruate.

I’m sure, like most diseases, symptoms vary between individuals as well as male and female.
