Does anyone know if there is a connection between PBC and high cholesterol and possibly heart problems?

PBC and cholesterol
Hi Philippastcarin
I was found to have pbc during tests following a heart attack. Not sure what my cholesterol was at the time, but a check about 8 years before was 5.3 .
I was put on 80mg atorvastatin after the heart attack which brought cholesterol down to 3.9 I eventually had to stop statins because of the effect on my liver. Tests later showed cholesterol up to 6.7. Gp says pbc raises cholesterol levels. I'm not aware of any connection showing high cholesterol can lead to pbc though.
Hi Phillip, I have always had, "borderline," cholesterol, or a little higher. My liver Dr. told me that Urso is also prescribed for kidney stones, gall stones, & cholesterol. It breaks down these, just like bile breaks down toxins in the liver. So, as you know, Urso is like a bile supplement. Since being on Urso, my cholesterol has been very good, therefore, I credit the Urso. I would take it even if I didn't have PBC, for this reason alone!
