If you have PBC and are on TPN but your protein is still low with dangerous levels of albumin noted with malnutrition what is the course of action? Has anyone been through this?

When my mom went into the hospital, about 2 weeks before she passed, her albumin levels were very low. It didn't matter how much nutrients she received, her body just was shutting down. It was explained to me in terms i could grasp, as I thought that something miraculous needed to take place. They told be that when the albumin stores get "dangerously low, and there are other conditions present in the elderly, that it was time to prepare for her transition. What they said was, it was too late for any intervention, including TPN to make a difference. Very sad indeed. She passed about 6 days later in her home. I'm so glad she is not here to feel the fear of this pandemic. Be well

Hopefully you have an attorney that is dealing within and you are not having to be on the front lines. I remember when you posted about your mom right after she passed. I'm so sorry this happened to your family. Could it be possible that she was just too sick to recover? If her albumin's dangerously low, she might not have had the fortitude to recover. Hope you are able to find the answers you need to find peace with this

Yes I do. She was stable going in everything was stable she went in for a UTI that was cleared up in 3 days - but being misdiagnosed with a perforated bowel and thrown on a NG tube and not eating for three weeks aside from lack of care brought her to a place she couldn't come back from ... My heart hurts as hard as it did that day she died but at least I am stronger to fight for her..
