Cold Medicines that are ok to take?

positivethoughts03 profile image

Hi everyone

Newly diagnosed and wondering what Cold Medicines are good for PBC/AIH? I feel a cold coming on especially my throat is feeling quite sore. And as an added detail, I am visiting my son in Japan from the US and worried I might be getting sick in a foreign country. Also, Can I take Tylenol or Motrin for pain? Any advice would be great. Thanks!

Usually we are told that only paracetamol at half dose is okay for us to take (it will help keep your temperature down if nothing else) I think paracetamol is similar to tylenol but I am not sure.

If you can manage your symptoms with good "old fashioned" remedies such as gargling with salt, drinking hot (warm) water with honey and lemon. If the symptoms have gone passed that stage it may be worth a visit to your doctor in the US before you travel.

Hopefully someone in the States who knows your medical system will come along soon to help more.

Have a good trip and family visit.

I agree only paracetamol, no lemslip or anything like that.

If you have a cough, it is okay to take Mucinex. Also you can take a little ibuprofen. If you have post nasal drip, you can take Allegra.

My doctor allows me to take Tylenol or Ibuprofen. I am in early stages though. Since I am a RN, and I occasionally need pain relief due to joint pain, I prefer the ibuprofen because it is an anti-inflammatory and is not metabolized in the liver. Good luck!

Hi Everyone thanks so much for the replies! I am still in Japan from the US. I've been feeling better and hope my good luck continues. Being susceptible to catching bad germs, I worry I'm doomed all the time!

Happy New Years Everyone! May 2020 bring you good health and much happiness'n
