Anyone familiar with getting an MRE?

I have a few questions about the MRE? I’m hoping someone with experience in this are might have some answers .Is it difficult insurance wise to get an MRE? Do you need to have a poor result in Fibroscan before you can get an MRE? What stage of cirrhosis do you need to be in before an MRE is ordered?

I have only had fibroscans because MRE is not available in my city just yet. My dr is comfortable with fibroscan as long as they are done right. I never heard that MRE is only done on cirrhotic patients. Fibrosis patients have them as well. MRE is said to be more accurate.

I am in early stage of PBC. I had a fibroscan scan one year ago and got 5.3. Had another one this past March and I have made 4 calls to get results and this time the person I spoke with said she would mail it right out. So I’m hoping to get that this week.

“Magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) is a non-invasive medical imaging technique that measures the stiffness of soft tissues by generating shear waves in tissue, imaging their propagation using MRI, and processing the images to generate a stiffness map (elastogram).”

No problem. Easier for me to copy and paste than explain in my own words! 😉 My hubby has had a few of them over the years too. Take care!
