Amitriptyline shakes: does anybody else get... - PBC Foundation
Amitriptyline shakes
Hi, I was on amitriptyline for years and never had that. I came off them when I was diagnosed with PBC (my choice) but I found withdrawal very hard.
Yes. I took amitriptyline for several years and had to finally stop it because of the shaking of my hands and heat intolerance, both known side effects of amitriptyline. Talk to your doctor and do not stop taking it abruptly...taper off over a couple of weeks if you decide to stop taking it.
My GP put me on amitriptyline decades ago. I had a difficult child and got no sleep. I have been using this before I go to bed and now "I sleep like a baby". Also, I have a brother-in-lawwho is a Superior Court Judge (Cdn,.) and he has been taking it for years for the same
reason. I guess the difference is that we take it at night for sleep so if there are side effects we are not aware of them.

Did you build up to 10mg, or start on that and stay on it? It might help to start low and build up - but do talk to your GP about this.
I was given 10mg amitrip. tablets to help me to sleep during horrendous, night-time, hot flushes (which were stopping all sleep, so that I was also getting awful migraines and acting like a zombie). My GP said to chop the 10mg tablets up into 1/2s, 1/3s, 1/4s … or even grind them to dust ... and just take what I needed to get a good night's sleep. After a few days' of trials, once I got the dose that suited me, they were a life-saver.
At first I did try one 10mg, but was 'knocked out' and could not function the next day: but, after a few days of testing … I found that 1/3 tablet worked perfectly for me.
NB Later in the year I had a bad bout of costochondritis, and the pain and stress from it was very bad. the the GP advised upping my dose, to help with that - and 10mg worked perfectly, but I was able to drop the dose back to 1/3, once the costo disappeared.
So, they strike me as pills that need to be adjusted according to the severity of your need, but I would ask your GP.
