Hi, just joined. Diagonosed Apr 18. Dr says I have had PBC since at least 2008. So 5 months taking URSO I am finding inch getting a lot worse. I`m seeing GP soon can he give me anything that helps? Liver specialist at hospital wants me to have an endoscopy. As I have a fear of swollowing anything even the URSO is a struggle I don`t want this done. What is everyone`s experience?

If you need it you should have it for peace of mind

You won’t know any thing about it even though you think you’re awake

Good luck

With the endoscopy you can be sedated, you won’t feel or remember anything. I’ve done one with it, and one without it and just had the throat spray but, I would say go for the sedation.

.I also had a fear of swallowing, but don't worry the endoscopy doesn't take very long and the nursing staff and doctors will help you through it. Hope everything goes well for you.

I had one about a month aftergallbladder was removed In 1996. My dr gave Versed. Referred to as amnesia drug. Next thing I knew, I was drinking a coke & fully dressed. Remembered nothing. You’ll do just fine. 😊

I just had one this past Monday. Except for my nerves, it was easy and nothing you should worry about. I had to not eat for 6 hours in advance and in my case, not take any of my morning medications ahead of time. Got to the surgery area, undressed only my top half and left on my pants and shoes. Got an IV. Answered a bunch of questions. Then got rolled into the actual room. They had me roll on my side and put a pillow behind me so that I wouldn't roll back once asleep. Then the doctor put a plastic thing between my teeth so that I wouldn't/couldn't close my mouth and I was out like a light. Not awake long enough to find the mouth thing annoying. I think it took about 10 minutes for the procedure and then I was in the recovery room. I was at the facility for a total of 1 1/2 to 2 hours. I had to have someone else drive me there and back because of the anesthesia. Felt fine if a little dopey - like "what just happened?" I could eat anything I wanted afterwards but I only wanted something soothing. I went with oatmeal. I wasn't supposed to have aspiring for another day because they took small biopsies of the esophagus.

Do not worry about swallowing anything. You will be out cold.

Oh I see that some people have had this procedure with no sedation. I can't imagine that. I have a very quick gag reflex. Go with the sedation and don't worry about a thing.
